One of our key regional North West clients is on the lookout for a proven and dynamic Buyer to join their thriving business, based in Greater Manchester. Our client is a leading name in the Civil Engineering industry and has grown year on year in their field, working on leading projects within Groundworks, Highways, and Drainage.
  
The successful candidate will play a key role in the business. This is an exciting opportunity to join an energetic and growing company that has been established since 2008 and has grown into a repeatable North West Contractor.

Job Role:

As a Buyer, you will play a pivotal role in our clients procurement process and contribute to the successful completion of our projects. Your responsibilities will include:
 

  • Providing accurate price estimates for all materials specified in project plans and drawings.
  • Identifying potential suppliers and sourcing new products to meet project requirements.
  • Contacting a variety of suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain competitive quotations.
  • Negotiating and agreeing on delivery times to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Maintaining detailed records and well-organized work schedules to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Assessing the reliability and performance of sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Resolving any challenges or issues related to suppliers and the flow of materials.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations for all materials and services.
  • Collaborating closely with the project estimator during the tendering stage to provide accurate cost projections.
  • Generating and maintaining comprehensive cost reports to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Negotiating and securing favourable terms and conditions with suppliers after contract award.
  
Requirements:
  

  • Proven experience as a Buyer or in a similar procurement role within the civil engineering or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials and their market rates.
  • Ability to read project plans and drawings and accurately estimate material quantities.
  • Organisational skills to maintain detailed records and work schedules.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with suppliers, sub-contractors, and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and tools.
  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset to address challenges promptly.
