The Role
We are currently
seeking a a senior social worker within a dedicated court team. You
will need to be able to manage cases within court proceedings from
initial hearing to final and then to adoption if needed. You will need
to produce a good standard of report writing and be able to give
evidence in court. You will need experience of managing looked after
children and children with CP plans. You will need experience of
undertaking viability assessment and writing court reports. This team
only takes on cases within care proceedings so the social work MUST
LIKE DOING COURT WORK. You will only hold cases within care
proceedings (and a few supervision orders) and cases going to
adoption. We have a protected cases load in view of the demand of
court work. The candidate must have court experience, knowledge and be
able to write court reports, undertake parenting assessment and work
with children placed with their parents, other family members or in
our care. The Court Social Worker will be based at home however will
need to visit children, attend the office to undertake duty (approx.
once every two weeks) and any face to face meeting. They will receive
good management support and have the opportunity to develop skills in
undertaking viability assessments and parenting
assessments.
The Candidate
- Social work qualification and at least one year's post qualifying experience in a social work role and be able to meet the requirements of the social work regulator. With the exception of Newly qualified Social Workers (ASYE).
- A current valid UK driving licence and the use of a car for work, with valid insurance covering business use - where required.
- Demonstrate an effective and active use of supervision for accountability, professional reflection and development
- Demonstrate an ability and understanding of the frameworks, theory and research which are applicable to the practice setting.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of the legal and policy frameworks and guidance that inform social work practice and which safeguard vulnerable service users. (Relating specifically to the area in which this post is placed).
- Demonstrate an ability to clearly and effectively communicate with service users, families and carers colleagues, and other professionals ensuring that individual's views opinions and wishes are explicitly recorded using a range of tools and techniques applicable to the
- service sector.
- Have excellent organisational skills and be able to prioritise workload according to risk and need.
- Demonstrate the ability to work as an autonomous professional and an ability to produce succinct and clear professional documentation which is of an excellent standard and in line with statutory and local timescales and local protocol.
- Demonstrate skills in sharing information appropriately and respectfully and recognise lines of accountability and the boundaries of professional autonomy and discretion.
- Be familiar with and demonstrate practice which meets the required level within social work frameworks. The PCF and KSS underpin the role and expectations of a Social Worker in the People Directorate.
