My Client is recruiting for a Commissioning Engineer in the Water Sector

Location: Site based work with some home working - Ideally based in the West Midlands or South East however further travel may be required.

  • Purpose : To commission company products, mainly used for phosphorus removal in the UK. The role may also involve our other products and international projects (mainly in the Middle East, though this role is based in the UK).
  • Scope : The role will require semi-autonomous working to commission and test mechanical and electrical equipment, put it into service, carry out training of client personnel and provide post-commissioning support and troubleshooting. The role also requires desk-based work to write and compile O&M manuals, training materials and commissioning records. Candidates will be expected to liaise effectively with colleagues in the Engineering and Projects teams to share best practice and to report any lessons learned and adapt procedures to eliminate inefficiencies.

The role does not require PLC software writing skills; these will be provided by the systems integrator.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Developing commissioning plans, risk assessments and method statements for the safe and efficient testing and setting into service of mechanical and electrical equipment (pumps, blowers, actuated valves, instruments).
  • Liaison with Project Engineers and client personnel to plan workload, managing several concurrent projects.
  • Testing PLC and HMI software, identifying bugs and communicating them effectively to the systems integrator for correction.
  • Writing O&M manuals, compiling supplier data into the document and issuing it to clients
  • Writing training materials and delivering training sessions to client personnel
  • Compiling and managing the snag list during commissioning, liaising with suppliers and other engineers to resolve them efficiently and safely.
  • Providing support and troubleshooting after commissioning, ensuring that the FilterClear plant and its associated feed pump station, backwash tanks and chemical dosing systems are operating effectively across a range of operating conditions.
  • Attending regular meetings with team members and/or client personnel, either in person or via videoconference
  • Communicating best practice and lessons learned to team members and improving procedures.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience of commissioning mechanical and electrical equipment in the water industry
  • Engineering qualification HND/HNC/degree or similar ideally Electrical
  • Electrical qualifications would be an advantage to allow safe working with control panels.
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently on multiple concurrent projects, meeting deadlines
  • Must be articulate with good communication skills in English, able to express ideas and concepts to others and to work effectively from home or office, liaising effectively with design engineers, clients and others.
  • Must be able to travel to UK sites, supply chain partners and offices. (A typical project will involve around 2 weeks at one site for commissioning, plus trips lasting a few days each for training and post-commissioning support.)
  • The role may require travel to Europe and the Middle East for similar short periods.
  • Must have a good understanding of UK health and safety regulations and good practices in the operation and maintenance of wastewater (and water) treatment facilities, and the ability to apply them in practice.
