Communications Manager - Thomson Reuters Foundation

Today, we work to strengthen local and national journalism, improve media ethics, standards and regulation, combat misinformation, and explore and shape the future of the profession. We do this through newsroom consultancy, journalism training and mentoring, capacity-building, and via our funding of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.  

We provide support to journalists and independent media outlets to produce and distribute high quality journalism in some of the world’s most challenging environments.   

We are seeking a Communications Manager to join our busy Communications team and support the implementation of the organisation’s internal and external communications efforts. This role reports into the Global Director of Communications.

About the Role
As our Communications Manager at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will:

  • Write and edit communications material for both internal and external audiences (both online and in print) including pieces for our digital platforms, social media posts and you will contribute towards research for Foundation-related content.

  • Liaise with the Foundation’s services and thought leadership teams to support their communications needs, identify content to be promoted and devise creative distribution plans. You’ll also research and draft speaking engagement briefings for the Foundation’s Senior Executive Team.

  • Lead on the collation, drafting, editing and dissemination of the Foundation’s weekly newsletter whilst providing general administration and support (including managing the enquiries inbox, drafting appropriate responses and managing diaries).

  • Support in devising and delivering communications around the Foundation’s key initiatives, programmatic activities and pitching and promoting Foundation collaborations.

  • Provide support to the Global Director of Communications and the Head of Communications. Here, you’ll organise and manage the Foundation’s annual Trust Conference, from researching speakers, to implementing our communications plan, to liaising with delegates, speakers and scholars.

  • Contribute to the messaging of social media marketing campaigns for major Foundation initiatives and relevant international days.


About You

To be our Communications Manager at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will likely have:

  • Proven experience working in a communications capacity, ideally for an international organisation or within a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).

  • Rigorous attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy, with exceptional research and analytical skills.

  • A highly motivated self-starter with an ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Exceptional organisational skills, must be able to juggle simultaneous projects led by multiple team members

  • A strong team ethic, keen to learn new skills and share expertise.

  • The ability to work creatively, speedily and accurately under pressure and to prioritise accordingly.

  • Fluent English is essential and additional languages, an advantage.

  • If you have experience in the development and/or charity sectors. Project management experience or a personal interest in social, humanitarian and/or environmental issues, we are particularly interested to hear more about these throughout the process.
