Full Job Description

SUMMARY

GCM Grosvenor is looking for an experienced individual to join its European business as a Compliance and Risk Officer (CRO) based in the UK. The CRO will have primary responsibility for monitoring Compliance and Risk in accordance with regulatory requirements applicable to the firm’s investment strategies and for valuation.

As an onsite/hybrid employee, you are expected to be in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well as a third day in coordination with your manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance

  • Help maintain an effective compliance framework in UK and EU, including maintaining applicable policies and procedures to reasonably ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Keep up to date with relevant regulations of key regulators, including FCA and ESMA.
  • Knowledge with SFDR and applicable regulations and how such rules apply to similar asset managers.
  • Carry out regular monitoring of compliance processes, including working with US offices and external compliance consultants, administrators, and counsel.
  • Assisting with regulatory communications (g ., correspondence, surveys, etc., exams, etc.).
  • Assist UK and European satellite offices with marketing registration and oversight of product distribution.
  • Assisting in responses to information requests from clients and prospects.
  • Provide MLRO oversight to reasonably ensure compliance with the FCA rules on controls required to combat money laundering and financial crimes.
  • Assist with GCM’s UK and EU reporting obligations including making all regulatory filings on time, g ., Annex IV.
  • Assist with Modern Slavery annual process and procedures around vendor and partners.
  • Knowledgeable on European privacy regulations such as GDPR; and willing to review applicable contractual clauses with vendors to ensure their GDPR compliance.
  • Assist with onboarding process with respect to new alternative investment funds.
  • Maintain oversight of, and file, all regulatory reporting on FCA’s Connect and RegData systems.
  • Preparation and filing of Annex IV for in scope Funds in various UK and EU jurisdictions.
  • Performing special projects as assigned.

Risk and Valuation

  • Lead risk monitoring in accordance with regulatory requirements applicable to the firm including the assessment and necessary enhancement of the applicable policies and procedures to ensure the effective design, implementation, ongoing monitoring of the firm’s risk and valuation management program and provide periodic reporting to the board.

Reporting/Filing

  • Review and assist in respect of Risk Management and Compliance elements reporting to Management, Depositary and Regulators.
  • Preparation of a risk reporting package specifically in relation to Gross & Commitment Leverage, Concentration, Counterparty Exposure, Stress Testing and Liquidity (in line with ESMA Guidelines).

Operational Due Diligence and Oversight

  • Assist with oversight elements related to the firm’s service providers and delegates such as fund administrators, investment managers, depositaries, and others.
  • Carry out initial and ongoing due diligence on delegates and service providers as required by regulation. Periodic due diligence visits to delegates.
  • Dealing with queries and escalations from the business, regulators and depositary.

EDUCATIOIN, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree required.
  • Legal degree required. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the alternative investment fund sector, including at least 2 years of experience in either a risk management or valuation role related to alternative investment funds—preferably in respect of illiquid investment strategies (g ., private equity, real estate, credit, or infrastructure).
  • Experience with compliance or legal in the alternative investment sector.
  • Experience and knowledge of AIFMD regime applicable to full-scope AIFMs (whether based in UK or the EU) on risk management and valuation.
  • Experience and knowledge of illiquid asset valuations and reporting systems.
  • Experience in overseeing third-party providers and delegates (g ., administrators, investment managers, depositaries, etc.) or experience in fund operations will be considered an advantage.
