Full Job Description

As the largest Train Operating Company in the United Kingdom, we are striving to make sure our passengers love travelling with us. Engineering play a vital role in ensuring our trains are well maintained, safe for transporting passengers, and offer a reliable service.

Selhurst Engineering Depot is the largest Rail Depot in the United Kingdom, delivering 30% of Southern's trains into service, and therefore plays a pivotal part in our ensuring our trains are fit for service and performance continually improved for the benefit of our valued passengers.

As the Depot Manager, your role will be to provide leadership to a team of around 200 people to ensure the safe, cost effective and efficient operation of the Depot. Through the maintenance of our trains you will be accountable of the delivery of a safe, reliable and compliant railway in line with SLAs and Quality/Availability targets.

Someone to drive a safety-first culture where safety concerns are identified, challenged and promptly dealt with across all activities at the site and subsequently implementing safety improvement plans to prevent reoccurrence.

Experience:
  • Experienced people leader, particularly in leading large teams.
  • An understanding of rolling stock and associated maintenance practices.
  • An understanding of general depot operations, associated safety risks, and mitigations.
  • Experience of creating a positive culture of inclusivity and collaboration.
Skills:
  • Developed strategic thinking, building strong interdepartmental relationships, and the ability to operate at all levels.
  • Engineering background (apprenticeship, internal training or similar).
  • Brilliant communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
