ABOUT THE ROLE
This role will involve working across our
Entertainment Portfolio, including weekly print titles best
and Inside Soap , editing copy to a high standard and
making sure all content is presented in a style and tone fitting the
relevant brand. The Deputy Chief Sub-Editor will support and deputise
for the Chief Sub in overseeing the production process of all pages,
from copy stage through to sending pages to press. You will also have
responsibility in the production and delivery of newsletters and
online content.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Chief Sub-Editor with sub-editing, contributing to regular production meetings and ensuring copy goes through the production system as efficiently as possible to meet deadlines.
- Sub-editing and fitting layouts for all pages of best and Inside Soap magazine brands.
- Subbing newsletter, online and social media content across the Entertainment Portfolio.
- Meticulously check facts and details and be relentless in the pursuit of obtaining accurate information.
- Rewrite copy where necessary, improving the flow, questioning what’s missing or seems incorrect and filling in the ‘gaps’ to improve clarity for the reader.
- Composing compelling display copy in keeping with house styles – including snappy captions that fit the tone of each title.
- Subbing any additional editorial or commercial content that arises during the production process.
- Ensuring that pages meet each brands’ high standards in terms of tone and accuracy.
- Sending pages to press and approve proofs.
- Assisting the Chief Sub-Editor in creating and adapting flatplans.
- Assisting in building and maintaining an up-to-date style guide for each title.
- To be an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values.
ABOUT YOU
- Experience on a consumer title
- Knowledge of best and Inside Soap and their readerships
- Experience using InDesign and CMS
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Meticulous and organised
- Calm under pressure
- Capable of juggling several tasks at once
- Good initiative
