Job Description

We are an independent specialist alternative provision with two sites located in West London – Freston Road and Southall (The Phoenix Centre). We work with students who have complex high needs for whom mainstream school has not been successful. These are some of the most vulnerable young people who deserve access to the best quality and relevant education offer which meets their needs.

We are looking for an experienced Deputy Headteacher with a desire to make more of an individual difference. This is a fantastic challenge that will see you supporting the Headteacher in planning, overseeing and delivering a specialised service with a maximum of eight learners per class. As well as taking a personal interest and making an in-depth contribution to each pupil’s life and outlook, you will actively contribute to the education provision of the Trust as a whole.

In this role you will support the Headteacher to provide leadership, vision and direction across the School.

You will establish and lead an area of specialism to ensure the development of the School as a catalyst for social change, improving sustainable outcomes for young people and the community as a whole.

You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the school’s inspection ratings through the delivery of high quality and high challenge, people focused and compliant education.

Main Duties & Accountabilities

  • Strategic overview of the design, development and delivery of outstanding, innovative and creative curricula and pastoral support across the school, including high quality and high challenge vocational and academic options and utilising the latest technologies.
  • Devise, develop and deliver through modelling, coaching and Team Teaching, a programme of CPD to ensure quality teaching and pastoral support for all delivery, learning and assessment to be at least good or outstanding.
  • Lead quality assurance across the school and the use of self-evaluation to drive school improvement and strategic improvement of overall standards.
  • Be the designated LAC lead for the school, overseeing a team of Assistant Headteachers, SENCO & Pastoral Managers to ensure that all SEND and LAC policies and statutory provisions stipulated through learning plans are adhered to. Similarly, oversee the EHCP and LAC caseload and the process of achieving ECHP and LAC outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • A recognised higher qualification with significant experienced of teaching and planning with a willingness to work towards QTS and NPQH.
  • Degree in related subject.
  • It is a requirement that the post holder has attended/will attend local safeguarding training that complies with national guidance.

Essential Knowledge

  • Knowledge of schools quality frameworks and Ofsted.
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements and legislation relating to school leadership and management including safer recruitment, safeguarding and health and safety.
  • Understanding of the delivery and contractual requirements of foundation learning, vocational learning and alternative provision.
  • Understanding of the risks entailed in service delivery to vulnerable/troubled young people and risk management processes.
  • Understanding of a range of teaching and learning and behaviour strategies to meet young people’s needs.

Essential Experience

  • Experience of working with our cohort of young people including those with complex, high behaviour and additional learning needs.
  • Extensive behaviour management experience with students who have complex needs and extreme behaviour.
  • Significant experience of leading and managing teams for improved performance in an alternative provision setting.
  • A track record of developing and using relevant management information/quality systems to ensure high levels of operational performance.
  • Experience of driving standards of delivery with demonstrable impact on people and performance.
  • Experience of financial planning, managing diverse budget lines and achieving value for money/maximising contract opportunities.

Additional Information

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Hours:  37 hours per week

Salary: Up to £58,000 per annum
