About the Roles

We have an opportunity for a Deputy Team Leader within our Development Management Team. The role is varied and you will have a key role in further enhancing service delivery for our customers and to focus specifically on the realisation of sustainable growth, firmly embedded in high standards of design and the maximisation of social, economic and environmental benefits.

You will work in a vibrant and busy Development Management Service. The post holders will project manage some of the largest developments that Croydon has to offer from pre application, to planning applications and through to post decision matters. Dealing with schemes which are high profile, sensitive and complex in nature. You will also have direct line management responsibilities, delegated decision making powers and be involved in identifying and implementing service improvements.

Croydon is a varied Borough and Officers have the opportunity to we deal with a whole spectrum of Planning Applications from green belt proposals to large mixed use urban developments.  On a day to day basis you will be responsible for managing your own case load of planning applications, pre applications and appeals whilst providing support to the officers you manage. The successful candidate will need to be a talented, politically astute, enthusiastic, motivated, experienced and knowledgeable individual who demonstrates practical experience of comprehensively assessing all aspects of development proposals with a sound understanding of planning policy and legislation. Moreover, you will need to be solution focussed and resilient in a pressurised environment and will need to be exceptionally skilled in the various negotiation and communication techniques (across all mediums).

We run regular training and development sessions on a wide range of planning and development matters, bringing in external speakers as well as in house experts and we encourage staff to take part in the organisation and topic selection.
