Job Description
Purpose: The Director of Alumni Relations provides leadership, management and execution of engagement activities and programs focused on alumni, parents and friends of Virginia State University. Duties & Responsibilities: The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for developing strategies to cultivate, engage and maintain VSU alumni, parents, and friends. This includes creating programming based on age, class year, interest, geographic location, and profession. The Director of Alumni Relations also serves as a liaison for the University, the Virginia State University Alumni Association, and the division and Student Success and Engagement’s Parent Engagement Council. Attending VSU Alumni Association meetings, events, and activities representing the University and Institutional Advancement is essential to this role, overseeing and executing VSU signature events, activities, programs, and initiatives focused on alumni, parents, and friends. Signature VSU events include Homecoming, Founder’s Day, and Alumni Weekend. This position requires the willingness and ability to travel frequently and work some evenings and weekends. The Director will manage problem solving within a diverse environment. Responsible for assuring that pertinent information and contacts for assigned prospects are properly recorded in the institutional database. Works collaboratively with administration, advancement staff, deans, faculty, and University constituents to cultivate and to advance the University priorities. Initiate strategic planning for implementation of constituency programs and activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Management, Communications or related fields. Experience in providing excellent customer service in a highly visible and fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Experience in higher education with an emphasis in fundraising, Project Management, and relationship building with alumni, parent, students and friends. Considerable experience in oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills that will enable articulation of University policies, procedures, and alumni relations with Board of Directors, Faculty, Staff, Administrators and constituents. Must have flexibility in travel, public relation engagements, and various departmental events, activities and program planning. Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Graphic Design. Knowledge of database systems such as Banner Advance and Banner Self-Service. Knowledge of Institutional Advancement and Development best practices and principles that presents an increase in growth and interest amongst all stakeholders.
