Purpose

This is an opportunity to lead and shape the internal audit function at Just Group. To build an independent, commercially focused team with a system of controls that are effective and proportionate, that help ensure the business goals and ambitions are met.

As Director of Group Internal Audit, you will report and present all Internal findings and Internal Audit matters to the Group Executive, Board and Audit Committee. Ensure Just Group grows its overall control framework in a safe but expedited way through the proactive development of the control environment and through effective challenge and relationship management with all key stakeholders of the business and Audit function.
 

Responsibilities will include:

  • To act as a FCA/PRA approved person (JRL SIMF 5, PLACL SIMF 5) ensuring that the leadership and management of the Just Group is carried out in line with PRA/FCA principles, rules and guidance and within a framework of appropriate and effective controls.
  • To be responsible for the formulation and alignment of the Group Internal Audit Strategy to the overall Group Strategy. To ensure that this is delivered through the effective leadership, oversight and management of the resources available.
  • To develop and drive forward the Internal Audit methodology, process, practices and reporting to maintain adherence to and exceed where appropriate professional standards, Internal KPIs and key stakeholder (Chief Executive Officer, Group Executives and Audit Committee Members) expectations ensuring these are all aligned and support the corporate objectives.
  • To be visible and seen as a key expert in the audit arena and a subject matter expert and effectively influence all individuals at every level from Operations to the Board. To drive and support the development of the overall corporate control framework and culture.
  • To develop and maintain strong relationships with all key internal and external stakeholders
  • To lead, inspire and motivate the Group Internal Audit team to maximise their effectiveness.
  • Be responsible for creating an environment of trust, open communication, creative thinking and cohesive team effort.
  • Through proactive challenge educate the business on the value of an effective control environment and how this can be further developed.  Using a range of innovative techniques drive through change with the intention to support the efficient and effective safe delivery of all key business objectives.
  • To provide support/investigation as requested by the Audit Committee (UK) or the Actuarial Audit and Risk Committee (South Africa) in relation to any Whistleblowing concern.

Skills and Knowledge

  • An advanced knowledge of leading risk-based Internal Audit procedures, including planning, techniques, testing and sampling methods and an understanding of the requirements set out in the IIA’s Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent analysis skills with the ability to understand the wider concept.
  • Ambitious, self-motivated with an ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Strong and demonstrable Leadership and Influencing skills
  • Strong team player with the ability to motivate and coach to achieve the best from individuals.
  • Excellent Stakeholder management skills with the ability to be able to influence at all levels.
  • Takes wider business and commercial issues into account; advocates the value of control in a pragmatic way, demonstrates flexibility, realism and practicality.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in performing audits (experience of Financial Services and or Insurance sector) ideally within Big 4 environment, computer audit experience beneficial
  • Demonstrable experience of auditing within a Solvency II environment.
  • The individual must have proven experience of developing and leading a successful Audit function.
  • An ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts and to prepare and present concise oral and written reports.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including the ability to undertake workshops with Senior Management in order to educate and embed Internal Audit strategies further within the business.
  • Innovative with exceptional analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills are important, along with the ability to provide guidance, develop strategies, and oversee the audit process effectively. The Individual must have experience of individually establishing and maintaining effective relationships with Senior Management,
