What you will bring


To be considered as the Director of Legal Services, you will need: 
 
- To be a qualified Barrister or Solicitor with post-qualification experience 
- Expertise and experience in the provision of public law services within a regulation context, providing legal advice at senior level 
- Proven senior leadership experience in an equivalent body or directorate within Legal Services environment 
- A demonstrable strong understanding of the relevant legislative context for CQC, and CQC’s enforcement powers 
- An understanding of public enquiries 
- An excellent understanding of legal matters 
- A strong, demonstrable understanding of risk models 
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills 
 
What you’ll be doing 
 
As the Director of Legal Services, you will provide strong and inspirational leadership to our Legal Services, Inquiries and Investigation teams. 
 
Specifically, you will set clear strategic direction and priorities for our legal functions, ensuring that there is expert advice, guidance and a formal, high-quality legal opinion. 
 
As an integral member of the Corporate Services senior team, you will act as Legal Advisor to the Board and report directly to the Deputy Chief Executive, meaning you will be working at the highest echelons of our organisation. 
 
You will ensure our strategic decision-making is underpinned by sound, robust and commercially-informed legal advice on a range of areas. These will include emerging government policy, new legislation, the use of CQC powers in new and novel situations, sensitive staffing matters and public inquiries, and high profile regulatory casework.
