Full Job Description

2 months contract with A Local Authority

Job Summary:

·         To be responsible for a caseload of children with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). This Includes overseeing the child’s journey from the commencement of statutory assessment to placement, ensuring all statutory processes are met, until finalisation of their EHCP using key working principles with the family.

·         To act as the named officer for a group of schools but to also be flexible and work as part of a team, providing services and support to parents/carers and colleagues. Foster and maintain close and effective working relationships with all partner agencies.

·       To ensure effective communication with parents and external agencies, in respect of policies, services and processes, which relate to SEND issues, offering an accessible and welcoming.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

·         To take lead responsibility/be a single point of contact for a portfolio of children and young people with SEND, once statutory assessment has commenced, in terms of support for the child and family, liaison with parents, schools, professionals and other Local Authorities as appropriate.

·         To use key working principles in helping parents, carers, young people, and professionals navigate the EHCP assessment and plan process. Including meeting with families at the start of the process, regular liaison by email and telephone and acting as the coordinator/key point of contact for all meetings concerning the assessment and placement process, keeping parents/carers/young people informed of the process and progress within it.

·         To manage the placement of pupils (within the portfolio) with EHCP of SEN.

·         Attend annual reviews and transition reviews, as required by the agreed procedure. This includes year 9 reviews when cases will transfer to a EHCP Coordinator 14-25 team; ensuring annual reviews are responded to within statutory timescales for EHCPs and, that where appropriate, EHCPs are amended within timescales.

Essential Experience Required:

·        Experience of establishing effective working relationships with parents/young people and other professionals such as the use of key working principles.

·         Knowledge and understanding of current issues in education for children and adults with complex needs, including safeguarding.

Essential Qualifications Required:

·    Good general standard of Education (GCSE or equivalent passes in English and Maths and 5 GCSEs or equivalent overall grades A* - C).

·         Knowledge of relevant legislation (Children and Families Act 2014, 0-25 SEND Code of Practice.

Additional information to note:

· Contractual hours, 36 hours Monday to Friday in accordance with the needs of the service.

·         ENHANCED DBS.
