JOB TITLE : SENIOR TRADING STANDARDS OFFICER - FOOD HYGIENE

LOCATION : SANDWELL, OLDBURY

WORKING HOURS : FULL TIME

Are you passionate about consumer rights and ensuring fair trading practices? We are seeking a dedicated Trading Standards Officer to join our clients team and help uphold regulatory compliance in the community. As a Trading Standards Officer, your responsibilities will include investigating complaints, conducting inspections, and enforcing laws and regulations related to trading standards.

We are looking for someone with experience of conducting Food Standards inspections and dealing with Product Safety complaints and enquiries.

Key responsibilities :

  • To take the lead on a given specialism within a defined geographical area maintaining professional standards.
  • To deputise for Team Manager as required.
  • To act as Deputy Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures as required by the Weights and Measures Act 1985 and carry out those statutory duties where appropriate
  • To ensure that all work carried out is in in accordance to legislation and regulations relevant to the specialism.
  • To oversee the investigation of complaints, made to the service and to ensure formal action is taken where appropriate.
  • To support the continuous development and improvement of service delivery.
  • To participate in joined up and coordinated activity with other teams within the service area to support the achievement of the overall aims and aspirations of the wider service area.
  • To take lead responsibility on the interpretation and implementation of appropriate legislation, codes of practice and policies as per specialist area, providing technical support to officers where required.

  • To act as a Senior Trading Standards/Environmental Health Officer on all matters relating to the work of the Citizen & Consumer Protection Team

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Experience in a similar role or a related field
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Relevant certification or qualifications in trading standards or consumer protection
  • You should be competent in Food Standards as detailed by the FSA Food Law Code of Practice and have the ability to carry out inspections in accordance with the relevant legislation and national codes of practice
  • Experience of conducting Food Standards inspections and dealing with Product Safety complaints and enquiries.
  • You must be competent with Microsoft Office and use of the internet and be an excellent communicator at all levels.
  • A relevant Product Safety qualifications is also highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the CIVICA Trading Standards database is desirable
