Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Maidstone, Kent

Salary: up to 45,000

Hours: Monday to Friday, weekly rotating shift pattern (06:00-14:00, 08:00-16:00 and 14:00-22:00)

Role Summary:

As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of electrical systems and equipment. Your expertise in troubleshooting and maintenance will be instrumental in driving improvements and optimising the manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities within your new role would be to:

  • The implementation and execution of all corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Ensuring that the maintenance department delivers a safe, effective and efficient service to the Production department.

  • Assist in the strategic development of the maintenance philosophy by implementing new maintenance techniques and procedures directed at increasing the plant availability.
  • Ensure outages schedules and maintenance programmes are completed on time and within budget.
  • Have supervision/liaison with sub-contractors as a additional maintenance resource or through maintenance contracts.
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and in line with the Safety Policy and Health & Safety statutory requirements.
  • Carry out risk assessments to ensure activities are completed in a safe manner at all times.
  • Work as part of a team to strive for continual improvement in minimising risk.
  • Ensure visitors/subcontractors attending the site are inducted in the site safety and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure that the sites housekeeping standards are achieved and developed.
  • Ensure that the implementation and use of specific tool box talks are carried out and documented accordingly.
  • Act as the authorised/nominated person by issuing safety permits as and when required.
  • Strive to introduce best practice and "right first time philosophy".
  • Assist in the implementation of equipment upgrades and replacements in line with the agreed process priorities.
  • Be a key member in the planning, execution and completion of planned shutdowns (usually 3 per year).
  • Be involved in statutory inspections of the plant and equipment.
  • Be involved in the day to day use of, implementation and the development of the company CMMS.
  • Manage and contribute towards the team effort, encouraging team spirit and provide assistance to others.
  • Encourage employee involvement in decision making processes.
  • Maintain and develop industrial relations through effective communication.
  • Develop and be a part of the WCM culture on site by developing procedures and initiatives (Quick Kaizen, 4D/8D, RCA, FEMECA and 5S) and participate in all parts of the planned professional maintenance pillar.

Experience and skills required for this position:

  • Good communication skills at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a proactive and flexible approach to tasks.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to operate flexibly over a wide range of work areas.
  • Good attention to detail, with problem solving and analysis skills.
  • The ability to be able to manage numerous sub-contractors in a planned shutdown environment.
  • Ideally hold a City & Guilds/ONC (in Electrical/Instrumentation & Control ideally).
  • Ideally have 5 years' experience from within power, paper, cement, energy, waste or FMCG industries.
  • Previous CMMS experience an advantage.
  • Ideally hold an IOSH safety accreditation.
  • Experience with preventative/predictive maintenance techniques (thermography, PAT testing, medium voltage working environments).
  • Experience with instrumentation and control systems to include PLC's, DCS and all forms of level, temperature, pressure and flow control.
  • The ability to be able to carry out basic welding repairs would be advantageous.

During planned shutdowns or peak periods, extended periods of site attendance will be required as part of the role requirements. This can mean working working 12 hour days / night shifts, and any holiday requests during these time will be denied.
