Job Opportunity: Enforcement Officer

Position: Enforcement Officer
Location: City Wide

About the Role:
As an Enforcement Officer, you will provide expert advice and coordination in enforcing planning control across our vibrant city. From investigating complaints to presenting evidence in court proceedings, your work will contribute to upholding planning regulations and fostering sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate complaints and monitor development to ensure compliance with planning regulations.
  • Prepare reports and provide expert advice on planning enforcement matters.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and present the Council's case in legal proceedings.
  • Monitor sites to ensure adherence to planning conditions and take appropriate action to address breaches.
  • Establish priorities and service standards for enforcement in collaboration with the Enforcement Team Leader.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Training:

  • Degree/diploma in Town Planning or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Allied skills in urban design, DC policy work, or evidence collection for court proceedings.

Experience:

  • Background in Town & Country Planning or similar field requiring legislative interpretation.
  • Significant experience in enforcement of planning control and dealing directly with the public.
  • Experience in writing appeal statements and providing evidence in court proceedings.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Project management skills and ability to manipulate data effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in ICT and ability to develop solutions to improve productivity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Tactful and firm demeanor in dealing with offenders, even in challenging situations.

  • Full driving license and ability to climb scaffolding when necessary.
  • Access to a reliable car insured for Council business.
