We are looking for somebody passionate about Engineering to join our UC Sheffield Higher Education team of dedicated teachers working together to unlock opportunities for budding Engineers all across Sheffield!

You will be teaching engineering in a fast-paced, exciting environment whilst also engaging with industry-leading development to take your career to the next level.

The role of Higher Education Engineering Lecturer is ideal if you:

  • Want a varied role where you are responsible for the delivery and management of our courses from Level 4, HNC
  • Are an Engineering Lecturer or  an Engineer who’s looking to start a career in education on either a full or  part-time basis
  • Would enjoy teaching engineering in a brand-new state-of-the-art facility , kitted out by world-renowned engineering company Haas
  • Want to network with both regional and global companies in the sector through development days and other exciting projects to help keep our provision cutting-edge

Day-to-day you will be responsible for:

  • Prepare for and deliver high-quality sessions to student groups within the Higher Education Engineering department, with clear intentions and well-defined outcomes
  • Manage student progress and achievement through the modules you deliver and manage
  • Evaluate students' work and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes
  • Take part in activities relating to the recruitment of students (open evenings, interviews etc)
  • Be an active member of staff teams, contributing to curriculum development, academic board meetings and course review
  • Participate in personal development, working to develop your own professional knowledge and skill set

After your first year with us, success would look like:

  • Built student skills to a high level in preparation for HE or industry
  • You have successfully improved grades for your student cohort
  • Embedded yourself as a key member of the team

  • Have high-level qualifications in an Engineering related field and relevant experience
  • Hold a teaching qualification or  be willing to work towards within 12 months of starting (fully funded by us!)
  • Be creative, enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking with a conscientious and organised approach
  • Work well as part of a team and be resilient, adaptable and enthusiastic with experience in engineering industry
  • You are student-focused, building a supportive and creative environment for students to develop their practical skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a restorative approach to classroom management
  • You will promote excellence and continuously improve practice
