Role Overview

Ipsos Public Affairs Crime and Justice team work with clients from across the criminal justice system to understand what really matters to the public and to those within the system. Our sensitive and complex research is of the highest quality, and directly informs policy, practice and communications within the sector.

We are looking for an Evaluator Associate Director or Senior Consultant level to join our Crime, Cohesion, Justice, and Security team – to deliver some of the most interesting and impactful evaluation studies across areas a range of policy areas including:

  • Crime (including domestic abuse, serious violence, youth crime, victim support, anti-social behaviour, modern slavery)
  • Justice and the justice system (including probations, prisons, courts, tribunals) 
  • Security issues (including economic crime, cyber-crime, counter extremism, state threats) 
  • Migration (including regular and irregular migration, refugees, integration and cohesion)

What will I be doing?

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced evaluator to manage high profile studies and contribute to the growth our business. 

As an Evaluation Associate Director or Senior Evaluation Consultant, you will also play an important role in business development, leading on winning proposals and identifying opportunities for further growth, while supporting the team and wider management of the business. 

We are looking for an evaluator with strong evaluation skills and experience leading on delivery of a range of evaluations. The ideal candidate would be interested in working on a range of evaluation projects and have experience using different evaluation approaches – working on process, impact (including quasi-experimental and RCT designs) and economic evaluations. 

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Managing research and evaluation projects through the full project cycle, from design, to data collection and analysis, through to developing conclusions and recommendations
  • Responsibility for delivering a range of research studies and evaluations 
  • Developing client relationships while ensuring projects are delivered to budget and timescale
  • Leading winning proposals, supported by a wider team;
  • Close working with research teams and partners to execute studies and provide advisory inputs
  • Drafting accessible and concise reporting outputs 
  • Presentation of results to clients and stakeholders
  • Developing research tools (e.g. questionnaires, discussion guides)
  • Leading research proposals as part of a wider team and supporting evaluation proposals.
  • Supporting junior staff to develop research skills
  • Work alongside the Senior Management Team in the strategic and operational management of the Crime, Justice Cohesion and Security team

Ipsos UK offers a hybrid working environment, 3 days in the office and working the rest from home. We have offices in London, Manchester and Edinburgh and open to applications from candidates able to work from one of these locations. 

What do I need to bring with me?

This role will suit candidates who enjoy working closely with clients, often delivering at a fast pace. We are looking for someone with;

  • Proven track record of delivering social policy evaluations
  • Good knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative (i.e. mixed method) approaches and experience of designing and delivering research projects
  • Good understanding of evaluation approaches
  • Interest in policy areas including migration, asylum seeking, social cohesion, counter terrorism, hate crime, counter extremism, cyber, fraud, drugs, county lines, serious violence, domestic abuse, youth crime and serious organised crime
  • Proven ability of managing and delivering projects to timescale and budgets with limited supervision
  • Proven ability to lead winning research proposals
  • Experience of establishing and managing strong client relationships
  • Confident and clear written and verbal communication skills, including experience of preparing presentations (and ideally written reports 
  • Time management skills and ability to work across multiple projects, prioritising tasks efficiently
  • Proven ability to work well in teams
