Job Description
The School of Education invites applications for a full-time term faculty position to support the Norfolk State University Spartans Teach Program. This program is a collaborative effort between the School of Education and the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology. The goal of the Spartans Teach Program is to increase the number of teacher candidates for high need STEM areas such as biology, chemistry, and mathematics. The Master Science Educator is responsible for igniting a passion for teaching and the field of science education through their instructional delivery practices in the model classroom and the mentoring services provided for each candidate. Additionally, the Master Science Educator is responsible for engaging the students in activities that enable them to understand culturally proficient pedagogy, culturally relevant assessment and classroom management practices, and aspects of social justice that relate to science education. The Master Science Educator assists students with tutoring and co-teaching services in our partner school districts during early field experiences, which occur prior to the final field experience of student teaching. The Master Science Educator is instrumental in advising the participants in the SPARTANS TEACH program with regard to recruiting others, tips for success in the teaching courses, and how to successfully navigate all field experiences for maximum positive impact on students in grades 6-12. The Master Science Educator reports directly to the Spartans Teach Director, but works collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Dean, Spartans Teach Director and Spartans Teach liaisons in both the School of Education and the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology. The Master Science Educator will teach courses associated with the Spartans Teach Program and serve as a University Supervisor for field experiences. Responsibilities include: 1. Supporting curricula and teaching courses associated with secondary science teacher education programs. 2. Providing leadership in inquiry-and field-based programs. 3. Engaging in interdisciplinary and classroom-based pre-service teacher program development. 4. Developing collaborative projects with individuals involved in STEM education for grades 6 through 12. 5. Demonstrating a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of science education and in practice. Minimum Qualifications
1. Master’s Degree or higher in Science Education and/or Curriculum Development and Instruction with a concentration in Science Education. 2. 5 years or more of effective teaching at the secondary (grades 6-12) education level in an accredited public school. 3. Demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in college science education teaching at the post-secondary level. 4. Demonstrated experience or capacity to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Demonstrated involvement in STEM -focused professional organizations and professional development activities at the international, national, and/or regional level. 2. Experience working with under-represented populations in STEM and advocating on behalf of these populations to foster success. 3. Demonstrate ability to communicate with a diverse student population, which includes the military, while fostering professionalism through competency, compassion, and collaboration. 4. Demonstrate commitment to academic excellence as well as Norfolk State University’s overall university goals and visions.
