Job Duties
Norfolk State
University’s (NSU) Department of Nursing and Allied Health seeks up to
two
experienced public health professionals to serve as primary
instructional faculty or primarily research faculty for the MPH
program. This program will have a focus on health equity.
Engage
in scholarly activity, grantsmanship, professional development and
service commensurate with faculty appointment type.
1. Teach
courses.
2. Conduct research.
3. Advise and mentor
students.
4. Strive to develop among students, respect for others
and their opinions, by demonstrating 5. respect for each student as a
learner and as an individual.
6. Promote student development and
academic achievement through tutoring, mentoring, referrals,
recommendations, financial assistance via scholarships and engagement
in curricular activities and service-learning.
7. Serve on the
program graduate committee and/or other committees.
8. Participate
in program planning activities.
9. Pursue funding for program and
faculty activities.

Minimum Qualifications
- A record of scholarly achievement in teaching,
research, service and professional development
- Established skill
in teaching in an on-line environment and using web-based applications
and learning management software.
- An earned Master of Public
Health degree.
- An earned terminal degree in public health or a
related degree (e.g., a DrPH or PhD)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership in a
public health field at local, state or national levels.

Experience teaching and mentoring MPH students.
- Experience with
health equity, diversity or inclusion initiatives.
- A commitment
to the academic development and well-being of all students.

Funding for public health research.
- Effective verbal and written
communication skills.
- Excellent organizational or management
skills.
- Experience working or conducting research in public
health.
- Experience teaching graduate students.
