Norfolk State University’s ( NSU ) Department of Nursing and Allied Health seeks an experienced public health professional to develop and manage a new Master of Public Health ( MPH ) program with a focus on health equity and teach and otherwise engage in scholarly activities. The incumbent also partners with program directors at NSU other institutions to coordinate public academics in Hampton Roads. Norfolk State University ( NSU ) is a public, urban, comprehensive university with an enrollment of more than 5,000 students, and is one of 15 public, two-year institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Founded in 1935, the University is located in the City of Norfolk in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Norfolk State University has five academic schools and colleges, employs over 1,000 faculty and staff, and has an annual operating budget in excess of $145 million. Job description includes and is not limited to: 1. Develop and implement the new MPH program with the department chair and other partners, including hiring faculty, finalizing the curriculum and developing policies and procedures. 2. Lead strategic planning, assessment and reporting efforts, including a focus on accreditation compliance. 3. Develop and manage program operations and academic affairs with the department chair, a requirement of the University and SACSCOC . 4. Prepare the program to apply for Council on Education for Public Health ( CEPH ) accreditation. 5. Engage in scholarly activity, grantsmanship, professional development and service commensurate with faculty appointment type. 6. Teach courses. 7. Advise and mentor students. 8. Strive to develop among students, respect for others and their opinions, by demonstrating respect for each student as a learner and as an individual. 9. Promote student development and academic achievement through tutoring, mentoring, referrals, recommendations, financial assistance via scholarships and engagement in curricular activities and service-learning. 10. Serve as chair of the program graduate committee. 11. Serve as the liaison to the School of Graduate Studies and Research to remain current on policies and procedures. 12. Participate on committees. 13. Pursue funding for program and faculty activities. Minimum Qualifications
1. An earned Master of Public Health degree. 2. An earned terminal degree in public health (e.g., a DrPH or PhD) 3. Experience teaching graduate students. 4. Established skill in teaching in an on-line environment and using web-based applications and learning management software. 5. Effective verbal and written communication skills. 6. Demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate partnerships. 7. Knowledge of CEPH accreditation standards and competency-based education. 8. A record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research, service and professional development 9. A commitment to the academic development and well-being of all students. 10. Experience in administrative leadership in an accredited academic public health program or school. 11. Experience working in public health.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Demonstrated leadership in a public health field at local, state or national levels. 2. Significant engagement and/or leadership in CEPH , ASPPH , APHA or other relevant national or statewide organizations related to public health. 3. Experience teaching and mentoring MPH students. 4. Significant experience with health equity, diversity or inclusion initiatives,
