Functional Safety Engineer

Location: Any UK Site

Due to team expansion we are recruiting a Functional Safety Engineer to support the development of safety requirements and implement the safety plan for projects across Alexander Dennis products. This role will work with the engineering development and supplier teams to develop safe designs for global markets.

Your dream role:

  • We need a functional safety guru to be responsible for undertaking FS activities in the development phases of the safety lifecycle and the Engineering Product Development process.
  • You’ll also be responsible for reviewing the safety plan for the products required within ADL projects and vehicles.
  • This is a full time, permanent position that can be based at any of our UK sites on a hybrid basis.
  • Your number on responsibility will be to provide assistance, guidance and ongoing support to engineers delivering functional safety work products including Item Definition, Hazard Identification, Hazard Analysis and Risks Assessment and Functional Safety Concept.
  • You will maintain the requirements management system to ensure data integrity and traceability across the functional safety lifecycle.
  • Undertake supplier liaison from early-stage concept involvement (Development Interface Agreement), through development audits and design reviews into the launch and production phases.
  • Present reasoned safety analysis and arguments to positively influence design decisions and educate stakeholders.
  • Generate technical documentation and reports to a high standard for internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with NFI Group colleagues to develop robust and reusable safety arguments that can be tailored to specific applications.

What you will bring:

  • You will have an engineering degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in successfully delivering electrical/electronic development projects as a key member.
  • An understanding of vehicle electrical systems and controls.
  • Awareness of hardware/software quality and management processes.
  • You’ll have Demonstrable experience planning and delivering concurrent tasks and projects along with proven problem-solving skills.
  • A great understanding of functional safety analysis.
  • Relationship building will come easily to you – across all levels of seniority and all areas of the business, meaning that you will be able to escalate major risk issues that needs immediate corrective action by senior management.
  • Things can be hectic here. You will remain calm under pressure and be able to prioritise and work on multiple features across ADL simultaneously.
