Job Description

Job Title - Multi Skilled Gas Engineer/Plumber

Job Purpose

  • To carry out Gas repairs, Servicing and Plumbing works as required for the Gas and Plumbing reactive repairs teams.
  • Designation of Post and Position within Departmental Structure
  • Reports to Working Supervisor/Contract Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Carry out routine and emergency repairs in a safe and effective manner in accordance with all relevant regulations and legislation applying logical fault diagnostic techniques on either schedule of rates, priced or day work basis as instructed by management and in accordance with the Councils Pay and Productivity scheme.
  2. Carry out installation work and repairs on either schedule of rates, priced or daywork basis as instructed by management.
  3. Carry out simple adjustments and disconnections to electrical equipment within agreed level of competence and training provided and in accordance with current Health and Safety legislation.
  4. Carry out routine and emergency repairs on plumbing/gas appliances to agreed level of competence and training provided in accordance with current legislation.
  5. Carry out occasional installation work.
  6. Complete all paperwork, reports, service sheets, timesheets etc legibly and return to main office promptly following completion of work on a daily basis.
  7. Identify required spares for jobs to manager/supervisor or recommend improvements, as appropriate.
  8. Assess materials needed and either obtain from main stores or obtain official orders for purchase direct from appropriate supplier, making sure that receipts, goods received notes and other paperwork is obtained and passed to supervisor daily.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Education/Training

  1. A good general standard of education with GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English.
  2. Must have served a recognised plumbing/gas-fitting apprenticeship.
  3. Must have a City and Guilds or equivalent qualification in plumbing/gas fitting and a minimum of five years' experience as a gas fitter or be able to show a minimum of ten years' experience and a lower technical qualification.
  4. Must have current ACS (where applicable) CODE - CCN1/CENWAT/CKR1/CPA1/HTR1/MET1
  5. City and Guilds or NVQ level 2 in Plumbing with demonstrable experience of a range of plumbing skills including repairs and maintenance and complete bathroom installations.
  6. Knowledge of Building Trades/Construction.

Experience

  1. Worked within the general building business.
  2. Used to working in occupied properties.
  3. Experience of installing/commissioning new works.
  4. Experience of fault finding on domestic and commercial plumbing/gas equipment.
  5. Sound knowledge of maintaining complex plant and equipment.
  6. Must have completed suitable training in accordance with ACS "Standards of Training in plumbing and Safe Gas Installation"
  7. Must be (or be able to be) Gas Safe registered.
  8. Proven capability of multi skilling

Skills, Abilities & Competencies

  1. Able to deal with tenants who can be demanding or abusive using tact and diplomacy.
  2. Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  3. Demonstrate communication skills, both written and oral.
  4. Able to organise/prioritise work to meet deadlines.
  5. Good communication skills and demonstrate able Customer care.
  6. Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
  7. Skilled plumbing work

Specific Working Requirements

  1. 37 hour week
  2. Split shifts 7am/7pm, Saturday mornings and call out rota.
  3. Hold a full current driving licence.
  4. Demonstrate a commitment to our Equal Opportunities Policy and sustainability objectives.
  5. This post will be required to be available for emergency call out as part of a rota system operated for out of hour's emergencies.
