Salary: Up to £40,000 depending on experience, plus Essential User Car

Location: Home-Based – plus travel requirements (UK and Internationally)

The opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity to work for Zurich Insurance, within our Zurich Resilience Solutions Energy Practice as a Graduate Risk Engineer.  Focussing on the metals, pulp & paper, and mining sectors, in which Zurich are a leading global insurer, you will be responsible for delivering risk assessment, risk insight, thought leadership and consulting services around property damage, machinery breakdown, business interruption and casualty risks to our internal and external customers. The role provides opportunities to engage with customers on a consultancy basis not only to share risk expertise but to provide insight into the customer’s business and identify opportunities for additional value-added services which create additional revenue streams to Zurich Resilience Solutions. This role will suit someone with the ambition and drive to develop themselves personally and professionally with our support as well as creating value both internally within Zurich and for our customers.

 

This is a home-based position in the UK and will require adhoc travel to our London office, our client sites around the UK and internationally.

 

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.  P lease talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk analysis as part of our risk engineering programs for large multinationals
  • Reviewing engineering reports and providing loss potential and discerning technical issues from them for the benefit of Zurich’s underwriters
  • Providing technical engineering knowledge and expertise to underwriters, customers and colleagues
  • Ability to travel and conduct on-site risk assessments and consulting services on large industrial complexes
  • Interpret existing standards, influence the development of new standards and review design documentation for our stakeholders
  • Contribute to thought leadership and technical insight delivered to customers, business partners and colleagues globally through events, communications and other publications
  • Lead, co-ordinate and/or contribute to technically challenging projects
  • Be fully conversant with the Zurich Risk Engineering proposition, identify and consult with customers and brokers where opportunities exist to generate additional revenue from the provision of additional value add services.

 

Your skills and experience:

Successful applications will need to demonstrate the following requirements:

  • Engineering Degree minimum (preferably Mechanical although others will be considered)
  • Recent graduate (within last two years) or about to graduate (Summer 2024)
  • Ambition to work towards CEng / IEng status
  • Any exposure to the metals / pulp & paper / industries would be advantageous
  • Additional training or experience such as DSEAR, PSSR, COMAH, Process Safety, PED, NEBOSH would be considered advantageous
  • Knowledge of risk analysis systems such as bow-tie, HAZOP etc would be considered advantageous
  • Knowledge of fire protection systems would be considered advantageous
  • Be customer focussed with an ability to build meaningful and trusting relationships.
  • Be naturally curious, be able to develop innovative solutions and have an ability to recognise and generate revenue income opportunities
  • Clearly demonstrate strong communication skills
  • An ability to embrace empowerment and accountability
  • Has a tangible commitment to self-development
  • An ability to promptly research a technical issue, using technical references and contacts and deliver viable solutions
  • Strong ability on IT platforms and ability to work with technical data
