About the Post:

Join a double award-winning Council of the Year and lead the delivery of our ambitious Barnsley 2030 vision.

Barnsley is the place of possibilities where vision becomes reality. We have reinvented ourselves, finding a new economic purpose and becoming an exemplar of renewal and transformation. Our strong sense of pride propels us forward with brave and innovative thinking, making our aspirations a reality and delivering for our people. It’s why we’re a double award-winning 2023 LGC and MJ Council of the Year - the first council ever to have won both awards in the same year.

We're looking for an exceptional individual to lead our Chief Executive's Office, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping policies, driving processes, and collaborating with stakeholders across the country.

Your role:

  • Lead our policy development and implementation, contributing your expertise to shape the future of our community.
  • Act as a vital link between our Chief Executive, Sarah Norman, and our Leader, Cllr Sir Steve Houghton CBE, ensuring seamless coordination and execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including our place partners, government agencies, community organisations, and local businesses, to foster collaboration and drive positive change.
  • Navigate complex issues, using your exceptional communication and problem-solving skills to find innovative solutions.
  • Coordination of a busy office in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth.

What we offer:

  • The chance to work alongside our Chief Executive and Leader of the Council, both known for their excellence and leadership within Local Government.
  • A supportive and inclusive work culture where your contributions are valued, and your ideas are heard.
  • Opportunities for professional development and advancement, with access to training programs and mentorship initiatives.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, including flexible working arrangements and generous holiday allowances.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in policy development, process improvement, or stakeholder engagement, preferably in a governmental or public sector environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organisational abilities and attention to detail, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A proactive mindset and a passion for driving positive change within the community.
  • Experience of people management and inspiring a cohesive team.
