Full Job Description

Finegreen are currently supporting a large NHS organisation in the appointment of a senior clinical engineering professional. This individual will provide the Trust with strong leadership and strategic direction within the field of EBME.

Key responsibilities will include:

Have operational accountability for all financial and physical resources of the department;
Integral in overseeing the annual medical devices replacement schedule and assist each Division with their respective maintenance budgets;
Key aspects include procurement and tenders, alignment of external maintenance contracts, consideration of in-house servicing and ensuring timely repairs;
Managing projects is also a central component of this role, which routinely includes medical device installations, clinical evaluations, education and research;
Led on future schemes include working towards a centralised asset management system; overseeing medical equipment training for clinical staff; and reworking the medical
devices operational policy;
As the organisation’s appointed ‘Medical Devices Safety Officer’ (MDSO), the post holder is responsible for ensuring all governance and regulatory affairs for medical devices are in order;
Other core managerial duties include promoting collaborative, team-centred working relationships within the department, across the organisational, and throughout the
medical engineering community;
Act as organisation’s principal technologist and medical device lead, providing comprehensive technical leadership and strategic direction in the specialised field of medical device management - from conception to disposal, with a proactive approach towards optimising patient care;
Play a pivotal role in formulating and subsequently overseeing the Trust’s recently approved ‘Medical Device Strategy’, ensuring it embodies the organisation’s vision of providing ‘safe, personal and effective’ care;
Continually assess the technological marketplace - advising on any advancements and new developments that will positively impact the Trust, its caregivers and its patients;

The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum degree-level qualification in Clinical Engineering discipline;
Substantive managerial experience of running a successful EBME/Clinical Engineering service within an acute NHS hospital environment;
Expert knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, and professional guidelines relating to the use and application of healthcare technologies (including but not exclusive to: MHRA, ISO; EC Medical Device Directive; Risk Management Standards; NICE; Care Quality Commission etc.);
Expert knowledge of policies and procedures relating to medical device management within hospital environment from procurement to disposal, such as MHRA, NICE guidelines, WEEE;
