Salary:   Up to £65,000

The opportunity!

MBDA is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the technical elements of Domestic New Business activity for the Sea Ceptor Weapon System, be responsible for System Performance activity, and lead the management of Requirements across several key domestic and Export programmes. The role will also offer the opportunity to lead the Systems element of the Sea Ceptor product design evolution, whilst providing technical support to both the Chief Systems Engineer and Chief Engineer.
 

Sea Ceptor is a very successful, innovative, high profile maritime air defence system that is in-service with the Royal Navy and export customers.
 

The role has multiple responsibilities!
  • Domestic New Business Technical Lead
  • Responsible for leading the technical elements of all domestic new business activity, responsible for leading the bid work alongside a Programme Manager through to bid submission.
  • This role will required interaction with a wide variety of internal and external partners.
  • Sea Ceptor Product Evolution Technical Lead
  • Responsibilities will include the coordination of the Sea Ceptor Project route map for Product Evolution working closely with the Chief Systems Engineer, Chief Engineer and Head of Export New Business and Delivery.
  • This element of the role will likely evolve as the Project route map evolves.
  • Requirements Manager (System and Sub-system)
  • For any new Sea Ceptor programme, this role is responsible for handling the System requirements and associated documentation and tools, and responsible for ensuring requirements are flowed down to Sub-System Design Authorities in a timely and coherent manner.
  • Responsible for Requirement Coherency both at System and sub-system level, across multiple domestic and export programmes.
  • This role will require engagement with the System Verification lead to ensure the verification strategy is maintained through the use of good requirements.
  • This role may require the mapping of Sea Ceptor requirements to customer requirement sets to show applicability.
  • Supervise System Performance activity. This role is responsible for:
  • Coordination of planned modelling activity, communicating with the pan project Performance Lead to deliver performance evaluations as required.
  • Support to technical queries on Sea Ceptor System Performance and behaviours.
  • This role will also offer the opportunity to support the wider Sea Ceptor Weapon Systems team, whether providing direction and insight or supporting others to meet deliverable needs.
  • Systems support to the Sea Ceptor Chief Systems Engineer (CSE), advising on system design and functionality conflicts, whilst providing the CSE with support in the product’s development, technical risk areas and reporting.
     

Through the above described responsibilities, this role will require task package management, as well as some line management responsibility, whether to permanent staff or offload resource.
 

What we’re looking for from you!
  • System engineering background with an ability to understand hardware / software interactions.
  • Shown experience in Naval Weapon Systems.
  • Validated experience with eternal collaborator management within the defence community.
  • Understanding of Weapon System integration and operation on Naval Platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, essential to working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and in building cohesion in the relationships between the Systems team and various interfacing teams;
  • Evidence of an ability to manage work streams across several programmes, whilst providing clear direction and guidance to team members.
  • A candidate who has detailed understanding and validated experience of the Systems Engineering lifecycle including requirement elicitation, identifying and managing key design drivers, modification development and formal verification and certification.
  • Experience of managing technical work package delivery.
  • Ability to work proactively and flexibly; responding quickly when programme priorities change.
  • Experience in RTC & DOORS.
