Full Job Description

The Health, Safety and Security Manager will manage the HSS team and the HSS function deliverables with the overall purpose to assist the Technical Director in managing the Association’s work programme. This role is working in an international marine sector environment where the bulk of the work is involved with sub sea construction activities. The post holder will be required to motivate and inspire with a passion for improving the industry and supporting a positive culture within the organisation.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Managerial Skills

  • Effectively manage the technical team responsible for the HSS core function plus any associated workgroups to ensure that they deliver the expected technical quality and service to the organisations membership.

Direction and participation in:

  • Organisation committees, sections, workgroups and sub-groups, including the preparation and dissemination of documents including guidance notes, safety flashes, safety statistical reports, agendas and minutes of meetings.
  • Support seminars and other key events.

Promotion of the Organisation:

  • Promote membership and members’ interests.
  • Adopt a high profile with third parties.
  • Interact with relevant external organisations to advance members’ interests.
  • Use publicity tools (press releases, magazine articles, etc) to raise the Organisation's profile.
  • Promote organisation developed guidance and documentation to non-member organisations and individuals.

Specific areas of responsibility:

  • Manage the HSS function.
  • Monitor HSS regulatory and technical developments which may affect the organisations members. Brief and lobby as appropriate.
  • Budget and provide financial input to line Management.
  • Champion the organisations' health, safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with other members of the technical and support teams.
  • Travel nationally and internationally to meetings and events as required.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS/STAKEHOLDERS

(Internal and external)

  • Liaising with third party organisations (international regulators, trade and technical associations, professional bodies, clients and others) to represent the organisation and its members.
  • Promote HSS guidance and documentation to non-member organisations and individuals.


PERSON SPECIFICATION Experience and Qualifications

  • Significant and relevant experience of Occupational Health and Safety in the offshore energy sector.
  • Experience of innovating and implementing new health, safety and security programmes across an organisation.
  • Managerial experience in a project or similar environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • NEBOSH qualified (diploma minimum, masters preferred) or equivalent.
  • A degree level education is desirable.

Knowledge

  • Good technical knowledge of human factors in design and human organisational performance.
  • Widespread and relevant experience and knowledge of offshore marine sector HSS issues .
  • Good knowledge of HSS incident investigation techniques.
