Morrison Energy Services  is recruiting for High Voltage Electrical Fitter Apprentices for our UK Power Networks contract in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex, Buckinghamshire & North London.

Morrison Energy Services is proud to be a key partner in the UKPN Alliance, delivering substation build and refurbishment works across the East of England including design, project management, cable installation, building construction, jointing, switchgear, bunding, commissioning, decommissioning and demolition. 

The apprenticeship programme provides the opportunity for individuals to become fully trained and qualified “craft” persons on the 11kV to 132kV distribution network. 

High Voltage Electrical Fitter Apprentice - Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Electrical fitting activities on High Voltage switch gear, transformers and associated equipment 
  • Installation of Control and protection equipment
  • Installation of Earthing Systems 
  • Installation of outdoor equipment such as Bus Bar, Disconnectors and Switchgear 
  • Maintenance of High Voltage equipment 
  • Fault Finding on Low and High Voltage equipment 
  • Receiving High Voltage documents 

High Voltage Electrical Fitter Apprentice - Essential Skills and Knowledge Requirements: 

  • Due to company health & safety policy you must be 18+ years old 
  • Full driving licence and own car 
  • GCSE's (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English, grades A-C or 9-5. 
  •  An interest in electronics, electricity or engineering and enthusiasm to work outdoors 
  • Ability to work in a team and an understanding of the importance of team work 
  • Possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated through the use of hand tools 
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weathers and ability to walk and stand on uneven ground 
  • Ability to work within a confined space, without restriction 
  • Willing and able to undertake physically demanding work in all weather conditions 
  • Applicants must live within the area they are applying for 

Apprenticeship Standard 

The Apprentice programme is 3 years in duration (indicative timescale), typically delivered in rotations of 2 week blocks at our training providers facilities in Manchester (accommodation is provided) followed by a period in the field, putting learning into practice. 

Award Winning Apprenticeship Development Programme: 

As an Apprentice within Morrison Energy Services, along with your technical programme, you will undertake our Apprenticeship Development Scheme (ADS) programme. 

The ADS programme is a blend of online and face to face sessions, involving soft skills development and mental health/pastoral care support.  Some elements of the scheme are residential, which will take place in England. 

Whilst on the programme, your travel to and from the providers’ locations, hotel accommodation and all meals will be fully paid for. 

Career Development 

Our apprentices start the training program on £9.50 per hour. 

Whilst on the programme, apprentices will receive regular salary reviews. On successful completion of year 1 of the apprenticeship, salary will increase to £11.50 per hour. 

We are also very keen that our apprentices progress within the business, and we have a full training and competence program in place to facilitate this.  There are a number of pathways to choose from upon completion, which will be discussed as part of quarterly progress reviews. 

Recruitment Process 

The start date of the apprenticeship programme will be September 2024 and you must be available to start employment on this date to be considered for the programme.   

We will be conducting an assessment centre which will take place on 18th July and 19th July 2024. Please only apply if you are able to attend.
