Full Job Description

BEFORE WE BEGIN...

LOCATION:   Much of our ongoing and forecast workload for this role is in Scotland and therefore our preference is for a candidate that would be attached to our Glasgow or Edinburgh office. However, we are big believers in flexible working, and that includes working from home. We have offices in Edinburgh. Glasgow, London and Bristol, and we are happy to talk about hybrid working patterns.

OUR RECRUITMENT PROCESS: We won't make you jump through hoops or present to the Board - we prefer to keep things simple.

We have a relaxed approach to getting to know each other - an initial chat to talk through your CV, followed by a more structured interview with the line manager you'll be working with. We are being interviewed just as much as you, so we welcome your questions!

Background to the opportunity

As part of our ongoing development, we are now seeking to complement our existing Geology, Peat & Hydrology team with an experienced professional.  Working with our existing team of environmental consultants, you will support, manage, and deliver committed projects and contribute to the development of ITPEnergised’s related offering, commensurate to your grade and experience. This is a great opportunity to support the growth of an exciting consulting business working alongside a highly experienced team.

ITPEnergised is a client-focused consultancy, providing project management, feasibility assessment and environmental and energy services to a range of sectors, including onshore and offshore renewables, urban development and infrastructure, industrial & manufacturing, and oil & gas (energy transition).

The Geology, Peat & Hydrology service line sits within the wider Environmental Planning Team which also covers Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Ecology.

Our team integrates geology and hydrology professionals; however we are primarily seeking candidates with a strong background in hydrology assessments, particularly in onshore renewables in Scotland, including the reporting of relevant EIA technical appendices (private water supply risk assessments, GWDTE assessments etc.).

We are primarily looking for people to join our team at Consultant to Principal Consultant level but will consider more senior or junior grades.

Duties and responsibilities

Depending on your experience and skill set, your roles and areas of focus would entail:

  • Preparation of EIA/ES report chapters (Geology, Peat, Hydrology and Hydrogeology) and technical appendices (Private Water Supply Risk Assessment, Groundwater Dependent Terrestrial Ecosystem Risk Assessment, Outline Flood Risk Assessment etc.) across a range of developments.
  • Managing and undertaking field surveys, including surface and groundwater monitoring programmes on a range of development sites (predominately onshore wind farms and transmission routes).
  • Developing health & safety plans to cover field work tasks.
  • Post-consent planning discharge conditions and construction phase support relating to hydrology/hydrogeology;
  • Graphics preparation and analysis of geospatial data (mainly using GIS).
  • Preparation of scopes of work and costs for input to fee proposals.
  • Project management, including to budgets and deadlines.
  • As the business requires, assist in delivery of other related environmental assessments, commensurate with experience and technical understanding, likely to include input to peat depth and condition surveys, peat stability assessments, peat management and restoration plans.
  • Contribution to business development appropriate to your grade and experience, including initiating and participating in client meetings, networking events, conferences, and seminars.
  • Management/mentoring of junior colleagues dependent on your grade and experience.

We offer flexible working options to suit domestic arrangements. Your role will ordinarily require occasional travel to our other office locations, clients’ offices and sites. This may include staying away from home during periods of fieldwork around the UK (generally ranging from 1 day to up to 1 week).

Person Specification

While we recognise every candidate has their own unique set of skills and experience, we feel the ideal candidate for this role should be able to demonstrate knowledge of, or have experience in some or all the following skills and attributes:

  • BSc degree level qualification or equivalent in geology, earth science, hydrology or similar.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification would be advantageous, and membership of a relevant institution (Geological Society, CIWEM or similar) working towards chartership.
  • Experience managing and undertaking hydrological field surveys and assessments.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of relevant UK/Scottish guidance and legislation.
  • Familiar using MS Office, with excellent report writing skills.
  • At least some familiarity and capability in using ArcGIS and/or QGIS including data collection software (Field Maps/QField or similar).
  • Full UK driving licence, off-road driving experience would be advantageous.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Good communication skills and a desire to work as part of a team and form successful ‘trusted advisor’ relationships with clients, stakeholders and team members.
