IRO / CP Chair

Up to £45 Umb

The job of an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) / Child Protection (CP) Chair is a critical and demanding role within child welfare and protection services. Here's an overview of the responsibilities and requirements associated with this position:

Responsibilities:

  1. Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) Duties:
    • Reviewing and monitoring the care plans of children who are in the care of the local authority.
    • Ensuring that the child's welfare and best interests are prioritised in all decision-making processes.
    • Conducting impartial and objective reviews of the child's case, including regular reviews and statutory reviews.
    • Chairing meetings related to the child's care plan and facilitating discussions among relevant parties.
  2. Child Protection (CP) Chair Duties:
    • Leading and chairing Child Protection Conferences to assess risks to a child's safety and well-being.
    • Coordinating the multi-agency response to child protection concerns, involving social workers, health care professionals, educators, and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Ensuring that child protection plans are developed, implemented, and regularly reviewed to address identified risks and safeguard the child.
    • Making decisions regarding the need for ongoing support, intervention, or legal proceedings to protect the child from harm.

Requirements:

  1. Qualifications and Experience:
    • A relevant qualification in social work & full SWE Registration.
    • Substantial experience working within child welfare and protection services, including experience in conducting assessments, developing care plans, and chairing meetings.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures governing child welfare and protection, including child safeguarding procedures and statutory requirements.
  2. Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build rapport with children, families, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and make informed decisions in the best interests of the child.
    • Effective leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to chair meetings, facilitate discussions, and resolve conflicts constructively.
    • Commitment to promoting the rights and well-being of children, with a sensitive and child-centered approach to practice.
