Import and Export Co-ordinator/Freight Forwarding Clerk

Shifts: Monday to Friday - 08:00am start with 16:30hrs finish, 1 Hour lunch – although the hours can be flexible.

We are currently recruiting for an Import and Export Co-ordinator/Freight Forwarding Clerk to join our Freight team located at our head office in Heywood.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Arranging Ocean and Road freight imports/export

  • Handling container and trailer haulage from collection to delivery.

  • Liaising with shipping lines and transport providers.

  • Booking in container collections and arranging deliveries to customer premises at agreed times.

  • Negotiating rates with suppliers and considering all costs involved.

  • Responding to customer requests and handling any queries or complaints.

  • Liaising with cold stores regards bookings.

  • Able to identify potential problems/delays and taking the necessary action to prevent them.

  • Building up the charge structure for each file and managing the commercial billing/purchasing administration.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Previous experience in handling container transport bookings

  • Previous experience in handling European transport bookings

  • Previous experience in inputting Import and Export declarations

  • Good understanding of handling refrigerated containers/temperature-controlled cargo.

  • Understanding of sea freight and European Road Freight logistics

  • Organised, efficient, sharp, work well under pressure and able to think on your own feet.

  • Confident, enthusiastic, and able to quickly adapt to fast changing circumstances.

  • Will need to be flexible and accommodate some out of hours issues, should they arise.

  • IT literate – fully conversant in Microsoft package (word/excel) plus Data Freight, Cargowise, CNS, CDS and other HMRC System

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Understanding of health Certificates and VET procedures.
