Full Job Description

Position:  Innovation Discovery Manager - Science and Engineering

Package:  £43,000 -45,891 pa (DOE) + Annual Bonus, Pension, Dental Plan, Private Medical Insurance, Optional Hybrid Working (3 days on-site), Onsite Parking & Annual Leave.

Core Hours : Mon – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00 (start and finish times are flexible)

Environment : Academia, Innovation

Location: Manchester

The Company :

My client is a leading Technology Transfer Office within Manchester that aims to capture and evaluate new inventions coming out of their associated University. They effectively assess innovations and opportunities to determine which have the greatest chance of generating future social and economic impact.

The Innovation Discovery Team:

The ‘Innovation Discovery Team’  is responsible for proactively engaging with inventors/innovators (academics, staff members and students) to identify, evaluate and describe opportunities that have the potential to generate significant beneficial economic, social, and environmental impact.

The Innovation Discovery Team is also responsible for capturing and describing IP-rich commercialisation opportunities that are brought to the Innovation Factory by University inventors.

The role:

My client is wanting to recruit a dynamic entrepreneurial Innovation Discovery Manager - Science and Engineering  whose core responsibilities are:

  1. To engage with inventors and innovators, evaluating and describing opportunities with potential to generate significant economic, social, and environmental impact where there is Intellectual Property owned by the University.
  2. Outreaching to the three faculties within the University to:
  3. maximise engagement.
  4. create enthusiasm for translating high-quality innovations into licensable IP commercialisation.
  5. run seminars to explain the IP commercialisation process.
  6. participate at other academic events to highlight the benefits to the university by way of commercialisation activities.

The successful candidate will work closely with relevant internal personnel, particularly the Business Analytics Team, to further assess and progress viable projects towards commercialisation.

A degree or similar level 6 qualification (England, Wales and N.Ireland Qualification levels) or equivalent is essential for this role (within a Life Science & Engineering related subject).

A post graduate qualification in a business-related discipline would be advantageous.
