We are a mid-sized company (300 people) based in South Manchester, we have our own development team creating applications for our customers and internal use. We see technology as a key differentiator in the marketplace and central to the growth of our business.
YOUR MISSIONOver the next twelve months you will contribute to the re-platforming of one of our core applications.
YOUR ACHIEVEMENTSOver the next 12 months we will:
- Re-platform our core product from Rhino to Node.js
- Improved development practices and processes
- Integrate with multiple partners
- Introduce multiple new technologies
To be a key contributor you will need to:
- Be able to rapidly learn new domains and understand complex business processes
- Understand how to work at an abstract architectural and concrete implementation level
- Have experience of designing API’s, including RESTful API’s
We currently work with Rhino and are in the process of moving to Node.js. Rhino specific experience isn’t essential, it’s just another JS platform. The application uses MySQL for persistence.
Or applications are deployed either with Ansible or in containers and we are moving towards Kubernetes for orchestration.
We work in an agile way in that work is clearly prioritised and delivered in small chunks, we are working to make the chunks smaller and the delivery more frequent. It’s not perfect but we continuously improving the way that we work.
The current applications are monolithic so as we split them up we will be looking at new technologies as we go. Newer persistence options such as MongoDB, and CockroachDB for SQL are all on the radar. We are also currently reworking our search and discovery to use ElasticSearch.
- Really need a developer that is happy with both Front and Back end development in JavaScript .
Salary Flexibility :
- £30k - £40k MAX.
Working Hours:
- 35hours per week - core hours are 10am-4pm
- Very flexible
Team Setup:
- 5 people in the Dev team.
- Reporting to the Head of Software Development.
