This exciting and pioneering role will see Social Pantry partner with Feltham Prison to reinvigorate the staff ‘mess’ to grab a delicious breakfast, lunch or coffee alongside being the training ground for offenders to learn and develop key skills within the kitchen and front of house space allowing them on release to have qualifications to go straight into a role with the support of Social Pantry.


The Role


As the Feltham Prison Kitchen Manager, you will supervise and oversee the inmates running and cooking for the prison staff in the café.


You will work alongside the Feltham Education Manager on a day to day basis to ensure training curriculum are followed as well as the general smooth running of the kitchen. Delivering breakfast, lunch and drinks


You will be the key bridging gap supporting all learners within the prison teaching them new skills and preparing them for a job on release. It is a chance to put your catering skills into practice and have an impact far beyond the kitchen


Responsibilities and duties:


Run the staff café with the inmates and Feltham kitchen manager creating a safe and efficient working space.

Deliver timely food production for Breakfast and Lunch service

Design and execute a simple yet effective menu

Prepare and cook food using ingredients with minimal waste

Ordering and checking receipt of deliveries, stores and stock control

Support with providing food safety, health and safety and COSHH.

Oversee all kitchen maintenance, reporting equipment breakdown and recording all maintenance requirements

Ensuring offender security is maintained; this includes issuing of behaviour warnings and minor reports

Contribute to the review of catering standards and ensuring the kitchen is run well, organised and a motivational learning environment for the inmates.

Deliver a pre-agreed training programme to the inmates covering both the establishment’s needs and offenders’ aspirations to work towards gaining industry recognised accreditations

Maintain and updating learner records including individual learning and career plans

Setting learning aims and goals, reviewing and providing feedback on offender progress.

Providing support and advice for the prison leavers on career opportunities for hospitality and catering

Mentor and be the main contact once the inmates have been released and offered a job in Social Pantry or another hospitality business

Work closely with a number of charities, mentors and the wider Social Pantry staff to effectively mentor each prison leaver in order to prevent and lessen the chances of re-offending and ensuring that each ex-offender stays with Social Pantry for as long as possible.

Two days a week working at our head office and production kitchen working alongside the ex-offenders amongst the wider team.

Who we’re looking for:

Have minimum 2 years’ experience in a learning and Development role within Food and Beverage

Level 2 or above in Food Safety and Production within hospitality

Strong communication skills

Nurturing characteristics

Passion for fresh, seasonal and local ingredients
