Overview

In this role you will be a company (and community) expert and technology influencer for Infrastructure Engineering, specializing in Linux and Unix operating systems with familiarty with kernel modules, networking, core software, observability, Active Directory integration, DNS, drivers, audits, security best practices, standards, and remediation. You will need to be a strong collaborator and liaison with operations specialists in other regions supporting our model for consistency and completeness in onboarding of Linux and Unix servers to production.

You will have an opportunity to work in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment. As part of the day-to-day work, you will focus on infrastructure-as-code and automation delivering golden images, post-provisioning, auditing, patching, OS upgrades, and certification on new hardware/platforms. You will work closely with operations to create runbooks as stepping stones toward automation and provide L3 engineering support for Linux and Unix systems.

Role summary and job responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance while supporting all appropriate technologies including on-premises and cloud-based Windows Server infrastructure.

  • Coordinate across engineering and operations teams to quickly resolve disruptions to technology services, through functional triage, performing root cause analysis, and taking preventative measures.

  • Review performance trends across the broader technology portfolio and initiates actions to address areas at risk for potential impacts.

  • Capable of dissecting a problem into manageable parts.

  • Lead initiatives of varying degrees of complexity.

  • Engages with development partners for optimum application knowledge and support.

  • Provide feedback and mentoring to junior level associates.

  • Hold associates and teams accountable for adhering to practices and policies.

Business Knowledge
  • Articulate broader business concerns and/or regulatory landscape, including key risks and controls (e.g., GDPR, MIFID, SOX).

  • Banking or financial services industry experience is a plus.

  • Make decisions that are cognizant of the firm’s broader business strategy.

Requirements
  • Typically has 5+ years of relevant experience. Strong RHEL experience is a must. Satellite experience is a bonus.

  • Proficient with Python, bash, or other scripting languages.

  • Ideally has understanding of modern deployment and code management with platforms like GitLab/GitHub and CI/CD concepts.

  • Experience with modern compute lifecycle management using declarative technologies like Ansible or Puppet.

  • Bonus points for being comfortable with Windows Server.

  • Experience supporting and using APIs a plus.

  • Experience working with Ticketing systems like ServiceNow and/or JIRA.

  • Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the broader technology portfolio including virtualization technologies and support tools, job scheduling, and proficient in scripting technologies.

  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation to reduce manual and complex processes.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies.

  • Work across teams to review technology portfolio and make recommendations for procedures and practices.

  • Review planned changes for alignment to target state and for consistency to policies before being implementation.
