BUSINESS UNIT AND
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Alternatives business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management is the primary center for our long term principal investing activity. The group invests in real estate, equity and credit strategies. Founded in 1986, and formerly known as Merchant Banking, the team has invested across a number of geographies, industries and transaction types. With 24 offices in 15 countries around the world, the group is one of the largest managers of private capital globally, offering deep expertise and long-standing relationships with companies, investors, entrepreneurs, operating partners and financial intermediaries around the globe.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- London based lawyer within the legal division supporting Private Credit at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in EMEA, with a strong emphasis on transaction support and execution for debt deals.
- Role will involve working on a wide range of credit transactions including mid and large cap leveraged finance deals (senior and mezz/junior), structured credit investments, opportunistic credit, as well as restructurings.
- Providing transactional advice during the life cycle of an investment, including structuring, negotiation of deal documentation, review of diligence, consideration of regulatory and reputational issues, and asset management support.
- Involvement in regulatory and other projects that affect the Alternatives business.
- Supporting the platform’s ongoing fundraising activity.
- Extensive interaction with investment professionals and colleagues across compliance, tax, credit and operations.
- Instructing and managing external counsel.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Good team player, dynamic and capable of working proactively with initiative on a wide range of issues in a fast-paced environment.
- UK, US or EU (or similar) qualified.
- 1-4 years post qualification experience; previous in-house experience (including on secondment) is helpful.
- European cross-border transaction experience also helpful.
- Acquisition/leveraged finance or restructuring lawyer with general banking experience (experience of financing structures across the capital structure helpful).
