Role: Managing ConsultantReports to: Assistant DirectorLocation: London Waterloo/client site/homeContract Type: Full-Time PermanentSalary: £80,000 - £100,000 plus bonus & benefits

Your role Working independently or as part of a team, our Managing Consultants can expect to lead and be involved in a range of projects at any one time, providing hands-on support to clients and support and guidance to team members. The work we do requires a mix of technical, problem-solving and relationship management skills; Consultancy is entrepreneurial and project-based by nature, meaning the day-to-day activities are often complex and varied.
Our projects vary in length and size, as do the demands of the client. You may be working with a large degree of independence or as part of a wider team. Your work can be based at our office, at a single client site or across several sites and work may involve travel and the possibility of overnight stays within the UK.
Our Managing Consultants provide senior, strategic leadership to the business and are trusted by the team to provide support and direction on client and business development work.
The requirements of any project will vary, but typical tasks and responsibilities for our Managing Consultants include:
Client DeliveryLeading a team to deliver multiple projects from start to end of the project lifecycle.Performing the Project Director role on large, multiple projects and assessing and managing strategic risks with responsibility for the overall quality for projects.Acts as a trusted advisor and critical friend to senior clients.Maintaining long-term relationships; supporting senior clients to navigate through complex and challenging circumstances and advising clients on wider issues in the sector.Leading and delivering confident and engaging presentations to clients and wider stakeholders.
Business developmentIdentifying and creating new, strategic business opportunities and developing a clear and achievable plan for growing a key part of the business.Developing major bids and proposals.Driving growth of the business through development and management of partner relationships.Actively building a network of established contacts to create new opportunities.Viewed and respected as an expert by the sector; acts as a market lead in a key area of the business.Representing Mutual Ventures at conferences and events; producing thought leadership items on a regular basis;If appropriate, able to play an important contributing role on the company leadership team.Playing an effective role in key strategic elements of the business;
Team management Line management of Consultants and Senior Consultants.Driving and supporting the performance management process; acts as a coach and mentor, providing expertise, guidance, support and regular feedback to reports.Providing support and direction on client and business development work;
Internal work Contributing to internal projects, sharing knowledge and practices to the wider team.Leading appropriate branding/marketing initiatives.
About you
We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for public services and a good understanding of the major themes in public service reform, with the following skills, experience and attitudes:
A minimum 2:2 degree in any disciplineDemonstrable management consultancy experience of selling into public services particularly central and/or local government;Strong networking and relationship-management skills with experience building relationships with senior clients and delivery partners;Demonstrable track record of creating new business development opportunities that follow through;Track record of leading large-scale successful projects and managing multiple teams as well as building successful, credible relationships with senior clients and delivery partners;Track record of developing and inspiring a team with well-developed leadership, coaching and mentoring skills;Demonstrable experience of delivering strategic advice and change to public service organisations at a senior level; expert on the major themes in public service reform;Expertly facilitate groups and present confidently and persuasively to large and unfamiliar audiences;Experience of business planning and financial modelling on large projects;Track record in leading solution development tools and subsequently delivering them;Be comfortable with travel and the possibility of overnight stays within the UK (at times this could be two/three nights a week).
