At Leonardo in Yeovil, the Home of British Helicopters, we design, develop and deliver aircraft operating around the world including multiple Search and Rescue fleets and Royal Navy Merlin and Wildcat helicopters.

We are currently recruiting for a Methods Manager to join the team on our Final Assembly Line.

The main scope for this role is:

  • To ensure that you have the sufficient capability and capacity to deliver fully against those requirements placed upon your area.

  • To manage and direct activities that support and reinforce the department's efforts in effecting significant change upon quality and product or service capability.

  • To act as a focal point for information across your teams specified skill set, presenting business information, and requirements that allows the allocated resource to respond to and deliver against those requirements.

  • To break down the operational tasks into component parts and prepare accurate estimates of time and manpower requirements to facilitate planning and resourcing.

  • To work in partnership with major stakeholders to fully, satisfy the needs of the business, and to manage effectively the expectations of those stakeholders.

  • To work with the Management team to ensure that corrective action plans are put into place where any non-conformances are identified.

  • To ensure that Manufacturing Engineering pursue the highest levels of industrial competitiveness along High Quality and reliability first time, Cost Efficiency and Schedule Adherence.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AS A METHODS MANAGER

The Manufacturing Engineering Methods Manager will be expected, to work with all the Management levels within Leonardo Helicopters, up to and including Head of Operations and Industrial Operations. Responsible for the management, co-ordination and review of the specific responsibilities.

•            Supporting the Department Manager, to whom you report, provide and direct technical knowledge and agree resource levels to deliver those products and services that you commit to supply

•            Ensuring products and services are to be delivered in an efficient and effective manner to meet agreed KPI's and contractual requirements, with due regard to Quality, Cost and Delivery Schedule

•       Reviewing and identifying those processes that require updating and to outline the true business process in conjunction with the Manufacturing Engineering Governance Manager

•            Monitoring and influencing of the departments Quality, Cost & Schedule (QCD). Ensure that key financial controls are in place to monitor and report on Cost / Budget Information

•            Attending periodic Workload and Resource Reviews, helping to identify resource requirements in conjunction with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and the Manufacturing Engineering Governance Manager

•         Approving EMAO documentation ensuring long lead-time items, are identified and ordered to reduce the risk to scheduled product delivery dates

•            Liaising with Stakeholders to identify and resolve the effect of product shortages to minimise impact on production

•            Amending the Aircraft Build Book to reflect the manufacturing process, where required

•    Identifying opportunities to eliminate non-conformances both internally and externally ensuring effective correction & preventative actions, are implemented and documented

•            Working together with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager to understand workload and priorities across the department and allocate resource to discharge those activities within agreed timescales. Identify, report and agree any potential slippage and recovery against those agreed targets with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager

•           Providing cost estimates in support of new business and identify relevant bid inputs for new business including initiatives to promote product/service improvements

•            Monitoring all activities and outputs against agreed performance measures and have regular progress reviews with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, customer and/or supplier as appropriate

•            Being proactive with the elimination of non-conformance and overall product integrity within the supply chain

•            Developing the Manufacturing Engineering programme plan detailing drawing requirement dates

•            Managing the departments participation at relevant IPT's

•            Identifying budget requirements for tasks, projects and services and support the control, management and budget reporting

•            Undertaking and manage individual Business Improvement Team Projects, as required

•            Providing regular progress reports for specific Business Improvement Team Projects managed by post holder

•            Working in the management of Business Improvement projects is the need to identify opportunities for continuous improvements, often through the implementation of existing and evolving Business Improvement techniques

•            Ensuring introduction and development of new technologies into the Department

•            SAP/CATS timesheet approval

•            Creating/maintaining of the FAST Helicopter Assembly(s) including offsets & Planning Time Fence information

•            Creating of Capital sanctions/projects

•            Providing technical support to the Aircraft Build Facility to solve installation and build issues that arise during the assembly process

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • A thorough knowledge of the Company Operating System and competent in the Manufacturing Engineering Procedures

  • Educated to at least HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline and/or a time served apprenticeship. With some strong post-training experience desirable

  • Engineer background from an Aerospace or high integrity mechanical manufacturing environment

  • Team worker and good communicator with influencing skills able to demonstrate proven leadership skills

  • Integrity and professional approach with credibility at all levels (internal and external)

  • Working knowledge of CATIA (V4/V5) & ENOVIA.

  • Working knowledge of SAP and the modules applicable to the Manufacturing Engineering function

  • Understand of the principles of MRP

  • Working knowledge of the use of estimating model spreadsheet as provided by work analysis

  • Familiar with the use of Microsoft package software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project. Able to use graphics software (Paintshop Pro)

  • Familiar with the Engineering change process and documentation

  • Experience in project management

  • Working knowledge of proven analysis and problem solving techniques

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques

  • Working knowledge of the Department Procedures Review process
