"Global Futures and Options Ltd (GFO-X)”, a UK FCA-authorised and regulated MTF, is seeking individuals to join the Market Surveillance Group which is part of the broader Compliance team. The Market Surveillance Group will be responsible for the real-time and post-event monitoring trading in derivatives across the GFO-X platform to detect trading activity that could adversely affect the firm and its reputation and to protect the quality of its market for all market participants. They will work closely with experienced staff and develop the capacity to conduct high-quality routine surveillance with minimal supervision. They will also work with the Compliance team, local business lines, support functions (including IT and Operations) and other stakeholders to identify business changes and regulatory developments that warrant updating existing or developing new surveillance patterns to ensure the Firm has comprehensive coverage.


GFO-X is the UK's first regulated and centrally cleared trading venue dedicated to digital asset derivatives. GFO-X has partnered with LCH SA which will offer clearing of Bitcoin index futures and options contracts traded on GFO-X, subject to regulatory approval. This will be made available through a new segregated clearing service, LCH DigitalAssetClear. GFO-X services large global institutional participants who require a regulated, institutional-grade trading venue for digital asset derivatives, including bitcoin index futures and options.


The successful candidate with be responsible but not limited to the following below:


Trade Surveillance

  • Real-time market monitoring.
  • Timely analysis of alerts escalated by Nasdaq Smarts surveillance tool leading to the detection and prevention of market or Firm damaging misconduct.
  • Perform ad-hoc reviews and screening of trading activity by analysing complex situations, identifying high-risk behaviours, and applying judgment to resolve issues in an efficient manner.
  • Maintain relationships with Compliance Coverage teams and Business Units.
  • Work with Technology teams and/or vendors in developing new tools and Surveillance controls.
  • Handle relevant day-to-day inquiries from Participants.
  • Conduct certain certification and conformance tests that new participants will be required to pass.
  • Keeping up to date with industry news and continuous market monitoring.

Regulatory Inquiries

  • Preparing and assessing materials for internal investigation.
  • Responding to and retrieving information for regulatory inquiries for the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) or other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Preparing STORs for submission to FCA.
  • Work with Business Units, Legal and Compliance Coverage teams in responding to the regulators, where necessary.
  • Where relevant, assist the Legal and Compliance team in conducting order/ trade data analysis.
  • Continuously work with IT to ensure the Regulatory Inquiry system/ tool is up-to-date and accurate.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant working experience in the financial services industry in Compliance or Internal Audit or with a regulated trading venue, trading firm, or regulator.
  • Experience in an asset class such as Equities Derivatives / FI / Commodities / FX / Digital Assets.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Ability to multitask and handle multiple compliance reviews and projects at the same time and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive in identifying risks and proposing solutions.
  • Exposure to trading desks, the electronic trading market, and the securities industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with surveillance and case management systems, such as Nasdaq Market Surveillance.
  • Works effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to create and foster relevant industry relationships and networks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.


This role is to be based at our offices in London and will report directly into the Head of Market Surveillance.
