Servomex, the global leader in gas analysis and part of the FTSE 250 Spectris Group, is searching for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hummingbird business unit. Our Hummingbird sensors power devices across the global industrial and medical markets , from critical care ventilators and anaesthesia delivery systems to process gas analysis and continuous emissions monitoring.



As part of our dedicated Hummingbird Engineering Team, the successful candidate will assist with all activities to support business objectives, with responsibility for the development and sustainment of the Hummingbird Sensing Technology product portfolio. The talented engineer will manage new product introduction (NPI) as well as sustaining projects. Additionally, they will design solutions to mechanical and electro-mechanical challenges and work with multidisciplinary teams to solve time critical issues.




About the Opportunity:




  • Provide direct support to the Engineering Manager and Engineering Team.
  • Manage NPI and sustaining projects, driving the ECO (engineering change order) and NPI processes and ensure the implementation of engineering records for relevant projects.
  • Document Calculations, Test reports etc. and Process Concessions, Generate & Manage Production Trials.
  • Assist with DFMEA activities.
  • Design/improve designs of mechanical & electro-mechanical components for use in gas analysers
  • Perform root cause analysis for production or field failures.
  • Generate and update related Product Documentation (Manuals, Test Specifications etc.)
  • Sourcing and ordering Prototype Parts.
  • Interpret and communicate complex data/information into meaningful terms for other teams such as assembly technicians.
  • To accept accountability for performance to agreed estimates.
  • Responds to requests for help from manufacturing, service, and application groups needing technical analysis.
  • Drive a team culture by closely partnering with operations, quality, supply chain, project management and product management.
  • Actively contribute to a supportive, ethical work environment.





About Your Talent :




Essential Skills and Experience:



  • Mechanical design knowledge/experience in industry.
  • IT literate and familiar with Microsoft products.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Good problem-solving skills.
  • Highly motivated. Pro-active, Hands-on approach.
  • The ability to work as a team member and possess good interpersonal, communication and literacy skills.
  • A solid understanding of technical drawings such as dimensions, tolerances, and 3rd angle projections.
  • Strong mechanical, science, and general engineering aptitude with design experience.
  • Solid involvement in leading design changes/projects from a technical and administrative perspective.
  • Understanding of instrumentation products and electronics.
  • Understanding/practice Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA)
  • Solid experience and knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD, specifically SolidWorks.





Desirable Skills and Experience:




  • Relevant technical knowledge and analytical skills from within a similar sector/discipline.
  • Experience working within a Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial or Technology environment.
  • Mechanical and Electrical aptitude with design experience for electro-mechanical systems.
  • Experience leading projects from a technical and administrative perspective
  • Knowledge and experience of Lean manufacturing techniques. Implementing Lean projects.
  • Experience (including hands on) with gas analysers and measurement products is a plus.
  • Proven and progressive experience as an engineer performing product engineering and/or new product development work on products with comparable production rates and complexity.




Essential Educational/Professional Qualifications:


  • BSc/BEng (Hons) or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.



Desirable Educational/Professional Qualifications:


  • Lean Six Sigma Green / Black belt qualification/ Practitioner.




Location: Crowborough, East Sussex, UK (hybrid arrangement available)
