Full Job Description

The Opportunity: 

The role holder will conduct internal and external research to evidence the positive impact of mentoring to students.  They will also create and curate a suite of resources which will help students understand the benefits of using their networks to assist in careers exploration. 

Drawing from existing resources, the post holder will also create a “how to guide” for students who are looking to find a mentor/grow their professional contacts or set up work shadowing opportunities independently. It is anticipated that this will be a collection of digital resources which will be housed on our web pages and promoted to all students. 

The post holder will also create a suite of materials for School staff and academics to support them in running their own mentoring programme.

This internship is part of the Employ.ed on Campus programme which is run by the Careers Service in collaboration with University departments and Schools. It offers exclusive summer internships at the University over the summer for 2nd year to penultimate-year undergraduate students from the University of Edinburgh based in the UK. As well as great work experience, the Careers Service provides supporting resources, this is combined with a framework to support the development of participants’ employability and self-reflection with an Edinburgh Award as part of the internship.

Expected commencement date: June 3rd 2024 

This post is fixed term (12 weeks internship) and full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Good communication skills with a range of audiences (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience of project planning and working to timescales
  • Experience of researching and collating information
  • An interest in the benefits of mentoring or previous experience of a mentoring relationship
