Full Job Description

Job title: Molecular biologist

Location: Bracknell, Berkshire.

Contract: 12- month FTC.

Pay rate: 19.56 p/h.

SRG are looking for an experienced molecular and plant biologist to work with a global agrochemical company based in Bracknell, Berkshire. As a molecular biologist, you'd be working at a world class research and development facility, in a team of passionate scientists, planning and carrying out studies in plant to plant and insect biology and symptomology.

This role would suit a PhD graduate, or scientist with equivalent experience in industry- experience working with invertebrate handling is a must, as well as experience with biological assay techniques. You will also need the ability to work to a high standard independently.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Carries out molecular biology assays on plant cells and invertebrates using a wide range of biological techniques.
  • Assists with study design and method development.
  • Follows broad frameworks to operate equipment needed to carry out trial work, and to ensure samples are available and delivered on time.
  • Resolves routine issues with minimal senior staff or supervisory guidance and approval. Requires some prior relevant experience.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must have worked with crop pest arthropods. Ideally, experience with Lepidoptera larvae.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Experience with injector systems (such as Nanoject) would be desirable.
  • Experience running bioassays would be desirable.
  • Experience with automated symptomology analysis and/or ADME assays would be desirable.
  • Experience in Analytical Science (e.g., Mass Spectrometry) and data analysis would be desirable.
  • Talent to work effectively with staff at all organisational levels and a creative mind for problem-solving.
  • Must have a degree/PhD in a relevant science discipline. Appropriate technical science background is critical.

Team mentality, effective interpersonal and communications skills, influencing colleagues from various disciplines, and guiding junior staff and students.
