Job Description
The Virginia Department of Health, Office of Chief Medical Examiner is actively seeking to recruit a Morgue Attendant (Morgue Security Officer-MEX11). This is a wage position that averages 15-29 hours per week, not to exceed 1500 hours in a year and is not eligible for benefits. This position is responsible for working evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. This position is responsible for receiving, releasing and physically moving human remains, processing evidence/personal belongings and ensuring the integrity of the evidence recovered and stored at the office. Some computer data entry is required in order to record activities. Responsible for monitoring access and admittance of visitors, the public, and organ procurement organizations to the building to ensure compliance with security policies. Answer all telephone calls to the morgue during shift and field questions from hospitals, funeral homes, doctors, families and police agencies. Reporting of unusual or emergency conditions to appropriate authorities. Assists with morgue operations support duties, which include, but are not limited to surveillance of the refrigeration systems, laundry, cleaning, and facility maintenance duties in the morgue area. This position will also perform administrative duties to include but not limited to: filing, faxing and photocopying.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements for working with biohazardous materials and security procedures -Ability to push/pull 100 to 500 lbs and lift with assistance -Must have some computer experience/data entry skills -Able to traverse uphill, rocky or otherwise unstable terrain and respond to mass disaster scenes -Experience performing administrative duties to include but not limited to: filing, faxing and photocopying -Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing effectively

Preferred Qualifications
-Previous experience with human remains in a hospital, morgue, funeral home or medical examiner’s facility is advantageous -Experience/training with handling evidence and/or personal effects preferred
