Basic Function:

To provide leadership and direction for the museum in a manner consistent with the University mission. Reports to Dean, College of the Arts.

Additional Basic Function – if applicable:

 

Kent State University seeks an experienced, forward‐thinking, and creative individual with curatorial and exhibition experience to provide leadership and direction for the Kent State University Museum. The KSU Museum Director is a 12‐month full‐time administrative position reporting to the Dean of the College of the Arts.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:  

Develop and implement strategic planning for museum collections development and exhibits scheduling; design and execute marketing plan to expand constituency.

Plan and collaborate with staff, university personnel, national and international colleagues, and donors on acquisitions development, the preservation and care of collections, and the education of the public and university community on the history of fashion and art.

Write grant proposals, coordinate fund-raising events.

Provide leadership of a small department, unit, or major function and/or direct supervision over administrative/professional employees.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable:

 

Collaborate with staff, university personnel, national and international colleagues and donors on acquisitions development, the care of the collection, and the education of the public and university communities about the museum as a relevant resource to a 21st century audience; provide leadership in fundraising, marketing, and membership; supervise a staff of five, including the museum curator, collections manager and registrar, exhibition designer and preparator, the head of security and visitor services, and an administrative assistant.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in dress/costume related area or other relevant field; seven years of experience in museum administration.

License/Certification:

Knowledge Of:

Personal computer applications; budgeting; strategic planning

Skill In:

Written and interpersonal communication

Ability To:

Provide leadership and direction

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

A terminal degree in a costume/fashion related area. Qualifications, experience, and credentials may be considered for appropriate faculty rank.
