About this client/child: Our client Tom is 14 years old and lives with his Mum and Dad in their fully adapted home. Tom is a charming, sweet, and cheerful young man with a love of music, arts and crafts, and spending time with his family. Tom has cerebral palsy, and complex care and medical needs; he is a wheelchair user and is tube fed. He is reliant on others to meet all his health, care, and medical needs. He uses a communication book, along with facial expressions, body language, and sounds to support his communication. Tom has a dedicated and committed care team in place, and he is now seeking a night carer to join!  His care team works in collaboration with Mum and Dad who are instrumental in their son's care.

Overview of role: The shift starts at 9.30pm and following a handover from Tom’s day carer, or Mum or Dad, you will assist and support Tom in getting ready for bed and setting up his sleep system and his video monitor. The monitor is connected to the carers’ bedroom so you will be alerted if Tom needs assistance during the night. You will soothe and calm Tom, ensuring he is comfortable and help him settle into a good night’s sleep. This is an On-call (or ‘resting’) night. Tom can experience periods of wakefulness and require comforting to nod back off to sleep, however, you will be able to rest throughout the night. In the morning you will support Tom with his personal care (washing, dressing etc.), before he has his breakfast. The family welcome a team member who would like to travel to Devon (for one week), during the Summer to support Tom whilst he is on his family holidays. This role offers 2 nights per week, Sunday and Monday, with the opportunity to work additional day or night shifts, covering annual leave or sickness.  The day shifts will be focused on supporting Tom with his personal care, administering medication, therapy programmes and participating in activities.

Who this job would suit: A kind, committed, empathetic, and considerate Night Carer with a passion for supporting and caring for others. For this role, you must be a driver, with a car (due to the location of the family’s home).

What’s great about this job: You will be part of a dedicated Care Team, receive excellent training and ongoing supervision. Tom is a pleasure to work with and support, he is a real character and captures everyone's heart!
