MLA (Move Language Ahead) is an industry leader in providing safe, educational, and cultural vacations to students from around the world. Each year thousands of students travel with MLA as part of our short-term English as a second language (ESL) programs. Along with our proprietary ESL curriculum, we also provide our students with great excursions featuring some of the most popular historical and tourist destinations across the country.


POSITION OVERVIEW

  • Responsible for student safety and wellbeing during MLA quiet hours
  • Reports to Welfare Manager
  • Employment from end of June – beginning of August
  • From GBP 530 per week (+ Holiday Pay 12.07%)
  • 6 working days per week
  • 1 day off per week

The MLA Night Guardian is a part-time, seasonal position (July through mid-August) with Move Language Ahead, which is the trade name for Go Languages Worldwide. The Night Guardian works under the direct supervision of the MLA Welfare Manager. The Night Guardian is hired to monitor the safety and well-being of international high school students attending a cultural immersion program six nights per week from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. While on duty, the Night Guardian is expected to enforce the MLA designated quiet hours and curfew.

SCHEDULE

 



Candidates must have a High School degree or equivalent. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment. Candidates must represent MLA Move Language Ahead's values and model those values to subordinates and colleagues.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Self-motivation
  • Ability to be pleasant, polite, and cooperative with fellow employees, vendors, and guests

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • First Aid certification
  • CPR/AED certification



KEY POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

Pre-Program

  • Review campus policies and become knowledgeable with emergency procedures

Residence Hall Supervision

  • Conduct regular rounds of the residence hall(s) to ensure guests are respecting curfew and quiet hours
  • Patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the campus to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the security of the facility
  • Challenge unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits; report if necessary
  • Liaise with campus Public Safety on matters of campus security and emergency management
  • Conduct room inspections, as directed, to ensure rooms are kept clean and emergency exits clear of obstructions
  • Report maintenance issues to the Center Manager for reporting to the campus liaison(s)

Office Duties

  • Staff the center office as directed
  • Complete daily incident log
  • Answer phones and make accurate records of conversations and/or messages
  • Assist the center administration in making photocopies, running errands, preparing activities, etc.

Departure Day

  • Conduct room inspections, as directed, and report any damage to the Center Director immediately
