The transition to a sustainable future, including tackling climate change and reversing biodiversity loss, is quite simply the biggest challenge of our time. Doing so requires both effective public policy (nationally and internationally) and practical solutions that are played out throughout the economy and society. IEMA (The Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) is looking to appoint an experienced Non-Executive Director with a strong Human Resources/Learning and Development background.

IEMA is the largest professional body for everybody working in the environment and sustainability with more than 21,000 members. Net zero by 2050, energy market volatility, climate finance, and COP29 – are all areas where IEMA is engaged.

We are seeking to appoint a high-calibre individual who can contribute up to two days per month to add Senior HR/L&D insight, expertise and impact to our Board. We are seeking candidates who have extensive experience in;

  1. Operating at ‘C’ Suite level regarding all aspects of human resource capital and planning
  2. Identifying and resolving skills gaps, succession planning and talent pool
  3. Chairing Nominations Committees and Remuneration Committees
  4. Internal dispute resolution
  5. Employment law and contract negotiation

Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a strong track record of Board experience, preferably as a non-executive director held in an HR/L&D capacity. They must also possess a clear understanding of director legal obligations, have financial acumen, strong governance skills, an extensive network and experience gained at a senior level and have an interest and passion in sustainability and aspire to make a difference.

Candidates must be educated to degree level or equivalent and preferably hold Fellow or Member status of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

There is a requirement to attend Board meetings, which are normally held in London.

This is a 3-year Board term appointment and whilst the role is not remunerated, all reasonable expenses will be paid.

Please apply with a CV, accompanied with a cover letter with answers to the following questions:
