Full Job Description

Mercuria is a major player in the Physical and Financial Global Commodity markets, with major trading centres in London, Geneva, Houston, Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing. We actively trade in all the major commodity asset classes, from Crude and Refined oil products, to power & gas, coal and emissions, through to freight, metals, and agricultural products.


We operate a global technology team, running an Agile delivery model in unison with our business partners to deliver multi-asset-class commodity systems, with a focus on automation, optimization, innovation and control.


The Assignment


We are looking for a Project Manager / Business Analyst to join our dynamic IT department owning agile coordination and analysis for all technology projects in the operations department supporting the Mercuria freight business. This role will report into the Head of Operations Technology, working closely with the Chief Operations Officer, Head of Freight and Shipping, as well as the Chief Technology Officer and their management teams for business alignment.


Working with key business stakeholders, including our freight trading, shipping operations, demurrage, credit, finance, and middle office teams. You will help gather business requirements, understand the as-is situation, and define the to-be target operating model. You should be experienced in managing agile development projects, working closely with development teams to deliver your milestones. You should demonstrate concise and transparent reporting of your project progress to ensure key stakeholders are well informed of significant deliveries and targets.


You should have a delivery focused background, with a proven ability to manage stakeholders to C-Level, a track record of inter-department collaboration and a desire to identify and develop strategic solutions.


Key responsibilities

  • Ownership of a portfolio of technology projects for the freight business
  • Drive delivery, whilst ensuring quality of low maintenance, high value solutions
  • Management of all aspects of the vendor engagement
  • Collaboration with a technology development team to produce, size, prioritize, and deliver a backlog of work in an agile manner
  • Build out a combined strategic roadmap based on Mercuria and vendor plans
  • Ensure requirements are correctly interpreted and offer maximum business value
  • Actively seek to identify and drive improvements and innovation
  • Represent and promote Mercuria IT, both internally and externally
  • Support firm wide initiatives & strategy where required


Requirements

  • Completion of previous assignments in a trading environment
  • Strong understanding of commodities business concepts and workflows
  • Strong understanding of risk and PnL processes
  • Strong vendor management track record
  • Understanding technology project management best practice, and agile delivery
  • Strong interpersonal skills – able to build relationships across the firm
  • Analytical and critical thinking with ability to problem solve complex issues
  • Passion for technology and innovation
