Operations Manager – Energy from Waste Power Station

MC Technical Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Operations Manager to join a leading business in the UK EFW sector at their EFW plant near Sittingbourne, Kent. This plant processes over 650,000 tonnes of waste per year generating circa 74MW of energy for the national grid.

The Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring the site is operating efficiently and effectively as possible whilst making sure environmental compliance is maintained at all times.

As the Operations Manager you will be responsible for:

• Day to day management of the Operations department consisting of Shift Team Leaders, Plant Operators and Outside Operators
• Management of the site safe systems of work as defined by the company safety rules
• Oversee the performance of the plant and report back to the relevant managers and stakeholders
• Ensure the site is always operating within the constraints of the site environmental permit
• Liaise with external bodies such as the EA and national grid
• Undertake staff appraisals, reviews and provide coaching and guidance to all operations staff
• Preparing and managing the departmental budget
• Deputise for the Plant Manager during holidays and periods of absence

To be considered for this role you should have:

• Experience at Shift Team Leader  / Operations Manager / Production Manager or similar in the power generation sector. This could be energy from waste, biomass, coal, CCGT etc
• A relevant qualification such as HNC/ONC/BTEC level in an engineering discipline e.g. mechanical, electrical, chemical etc
• Strong operational and commercial understanding and awareness
• Legislative knowledge within the waste / EFW industry
• Ideally some financial experience managing budgets
• Ideally a NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
